I'm watching "Vietnam in HD" on History Channel

right now. I can sincerely say that I hope every single person who spit on, harassed, yelled at, etc. American troops coming home from that Hell dies a painful death. Fvck those pieces of shit.
My dad spent his 18 months over there. Just being over there was bad. The closer to the action you were, the more suck you had to endure. The politicians screwed up that war. Not that we haven’t see that kind of BS recently.

That era was the beginning of the commie takeover. This kids are older adults now and created a couple generations of rot in our society. Sad.

It's weird how The Greatest Generation birthed the worst one.

Then the country is not what you want it to be. This is the only country in the world free enough to allow people to do some of the sriPod crap they did. Sure they are wrong and thoughtless to do the things they did but it’s their right to be stupid in this great country of ours. I pity them more than hate them, but think God I live in a country where someone has the freedom to do something like that.

I can agree with most of what you say, only it would be nice if those malcontents were only able to exercise their freedoms to be @ssholes in protest only…….not running our country.

You’re missing the point.

Fair enough but they were not free to spit on the troops returning from Vietnam. Furthermore, Jane Fonda should not have been free to provide aid and comfort to the enemy. Now she wants to murder judges who are against abortion...go figure.

Bill, it's one thing to protest. You have the right to do that. It certainly makes more sense to protest towards policy makers, but whatever. You don't, however, have the right to spit on someone. You don't have the right to beat on someone's car as they are leaving the airport to go home. You don't live in a country where that's ok, and you never have.

Moreover, it may be legal, but that doesn’t make it right. We’ve lost our soul and moral compass in this country and it shows.

It’s not legal to spit on anyone, or harm anyone or damage anyone’s property. it is only legal to the tip of a person’s nose. Those things go past. My Gtandfather‘s favorite saying was, “your rights end at the tip of my nose.”

Again you’re making this a legal issue when it’s about what’s acceptable in a civil society. You continue to miss the point.

I was in and out before Vietnam heated up. Trained South Vietnam officers for a very short time. I was very lucky, but some of my AU grad friends were not. RIP Major Kenny Brown, ME (AU '61), who ended up with leukemia from Agent Orange. Watched him die a painful death up close.

Funny Story: Kenny and I lived in the same adult apt complex in the early 70s (Post Divorce). He drove a Pontiac Firebird convertible. Kenny would drink his beer while driving and throw the empties in the back seat. (White leather)

We would turn a corner and beer cans would fly out of the back seat clanging down the street. When the back seat got full, he had it detailed and started all over. One day I said something to him about it. He said he didn't give a shit, he was dying anyway. His final days are stuck in my memory to this day, some 50 years later.

Sounds like a character. And while I am firmly opposed to driving drunk, I also have to say America was made great partly by people like him.

No. You miss the point. I’m not going to wish these guys all that bad crap because they are stupid.

Technically, I wished the "bad crap", and it goes beyond being stupid. They assaulted returning soldiers, and trying to excuse that shit behavior by saying the country allows for it is idiotic. The country allows for peaceful protests, not the bullshit a lot of returning soldiers had to endure.

Who is wishing them bad crap? Nice straw man argument. Once again, you miss my point. It’s like trying to discuss LSU with you. Won’t listen to reason.

I’ll try one more time. There was a time - say when you were a child, when it might have been legal to behave that way. But no one did it. Why is that?

Sure seemed to be okay during the 2020 “summer of love”……and MUCH worse.

It wasn't ok. It was just allowed.
I don’t know, I get where you’re coming from and I’m in complete agreement with you but we’re dealing with a whole new level of anti-Americanism. I think many of the 60’s hippie counter culture “warriors” were trying to make changes in government and policies (albeit often misguided and ethically dubious, e.g., spitting on soldiers). But again, this current crop of progressive activism just wants to burn it down, not reform.

They're more extreme now on the left, for sure. That doesn't mean those in the 60s who were spitting on soldiers aren't pieces of shit.

Waiting for BG to chime in with his heroic tales of a Rambo Nurse jabbing a plethora of penicillin into painfully puffed up penises thereby protecting their penetrating plows from prolonged putrid puss pockets deep within their peckers.

Not as dignified as some we’ve heard about in this thread but keep in mind, the fighting was long over by the time he got there.

This was plantastic. 😂

For the permanent idiocy record here… what day was the fighting over??

Honk said “Fighting was over in VietNam on __________”

No need for you to keep lying about it after basically admitting it last time we discussed it. Just say, “I’m a lying coxucker” and move on. Everyone will respect you better that way.

Isn’t sssault illegal? i didn’t say the constitution allows that. Anybody that assaulted anybody should pay for it.what I’m saying is that you can’t cut out the right to protest and not take a step toward a totalitarian government.

Nobody here said anything about taking away the right to peaceful protest. The First Amendment guarantees that right. But, it uses the adjective "peaceful".

Semantics. Peaceful is when it stops at the tip of the nose.

Bill, guys were spit on. Protesters would beat on their cars when they were leaving the airport. Your fvcking right to protest ends when I feel like I'm being threatened with harm.

Further, I'm guessing you were ok with the George Floyd protesters burning buildings and destroying property. Right to protest, correct?

He just doesn’t get it. Or he just likes to argue and needs a way to pass the time since it isn’t bridge season. 🤣

What's funny is that my original post said "I HOPE they die a painful death." We live in a country where that's perfectly legal. I didn't threaten anyone, spit on them, harass them, etc. So, Bill wants my rights to be shit on.

I'm shocked that someone of his generation doesn't understand what we are saying and agree with it. I could understand some Millennial or Gen Zer raised on $5 lattes and fancy gluten free toast. Bill is of my parents generation...it might have been legal but my dad would have put me through a wall if I disrespected our military in that manner.

I haven’t lied about anything. I’m very proud to have served my country even though - as DHE said - service in VietNam it is not respected - even here.

You don’t know about “ Operation Frequent Wind” and you’re to stupid to read about it. That allows you to maintain your buffoonery as your own personal shit show. But it doesn’t bother me anymore because you are a clown and troll… probably one of the dudes who spit on and cursed the Vietnam vets.

The nation turned their back on us… sour service was for you brothers. The US soldiers and civilians who I helped return to their families do appreciate it and that’s all that really matters to me. You don’t.

He's fvcking with you BG. He'd be much more likely to pour you a drink than spit on you.

But yea, he would also fight you in a Sonic parking lot.
