How does Luke or Iowa Preps pick performers/players?

I am puzzled how Luke post the players names for various recognition like "weeks best performers" or "Best linemen in the class of X" ( this is on the paid side of Iowa Preps) Or how players are highlighted on the home page?
I go to games every week and see some outstanding players have unbelievable nights yet they are never highlighted of mentioned.

When I see the Luke posting "Top Players in the class if 2017 or 2018" it really makes me scratch my head, I am not saying they are not deserving however I see really really good players that are leading the state in some meaningful stats not get even a mention. So who determines if a player is a top player in the class of 201X... is it the coaches?

If anyone knows how Luke gets this data to post it would be appreciated.

He probably does not get to see many of the western teams play.

Luke, you should have Rivals front you the money for a Hudl account and then request video from all of the coaches of the teams you'd like to watch.

I'll do the film work for you ;)

I think you're right on the western teams, Luke it's a big state with talent all over. If you want provide your e-mail, I will be glad to shoot you a list of name to check out. Once again I am not taking anything away from the east side just wanting the west and central to get some deserving players recognized.

Does someone need to contact the Register and let them know there is life outside the golden circle as well? As far as Luke goes I do know he solicits input from people on this site.

What makes anyone on here qualified to say who is or who is not a player? I have seen it for years especially since quikstats rolled around. Player X is amazing and the best there is because he put up 400 yards...on who? A team that is 0 - 8? Or teams that let their kids play when games are blow outs and rack up stats. Here's how you find out who is a player, get off of quikstats and watch, watch his competition. You can also find out who the touted guys are when the colleges roll around....I know my kid is getting looks and not once has any recruiter looked on this site to determine if he can play.

Right... That's why I said to use Hudl. It's not feasible for all of us to travel from wherever we access the interwebs to watch your son play. I also wouldn't want to travel anywhere to watch a kid unless he's getting those looks from FBS schools - not D-II and certainly not D-III. D-III will look at any kid with a pulse.

There are a handful of players in the state that are worthy of D1 looks and they're at the top of every list and every stat site out there. See Brandon Wegher, James Morris, Allen Lazard, etc.

Agree and no one is talking about Quik Crap Stats The question is "How does Luke determine who to list" ...what's the criteria? It's just a question.

Luke gets info from lots of different sources. Coaches, Players, opposing players and, parents, college coaches ect. He would be the one to answer this. Honestly, send him an email with the players you feel may need to be added. Any football at the next level is good football, I don't care what anyone says. Just cause a kid goes to a DIII school doesn't mean he is garbage or not good enough. The eye candy test doesn't always cut it. Just cause a lineman is 6'4 and 280 doesn't mean a player 6'2 250 can't wipe his hinny. Look at #43 Josey Jewell. He was pretty much going to Luther a DIII school and Reese Morgan spotted something he liked. The rest is history. We attended a game day visit at a DII school saturday. The players up front are every bit as big as D1 and I would take a guess some could easily play at the D1 level. The hitting was intense and the passes along with the catches where awesome. College football is good football no matter what. All kinds of circumstances come into play and where a player may decided to further his career.

the e-mail I have for Luke keeps bouncing back, if you have his e-mail please provide it and I'll submit some names.

Also you're dead on with your statement about college football at the non D-1 level, I watch Morningside play and I promise you they are not taking just anybody with a pulse to line up every Saturday.

The comment that I got from a high school coach at a D2 game 'the same as at a D1 game but the kids are 3-4 inches shorter'

I'm not talking about starters at these schools. Nowhere in any post did I say anything about starters. We were discussing looks from schools. These schools need scout team players too, and they will take anyone they can get.

If Reece Morgan saw something in Josey Jewell, then that would qualify as a D1 look. I'm talking about the cream of the crop. Honestly, I wouldn't have traveled to watch Josey Jewell. I would have traveled to watch Ross Pierschbacher, James Morris, Allen Lazard, and Brandon Wegher. D-II isn't that far off D-I at all once the players are there and the lineups are set and the games are played.. But in most cases, a kid getting serious Division 1 looks and/or offers compared to a kid that is getting a look from a D-II school is someone worth going to see and much better in a Iowa high school game.

assuming his e-mail is something other then the one provided or he doesn't want additional names. Once again no response when I reached out via e-mail. And we wonder why this board is about dead.

He is a busy man, Look at all the data and emails he has to answer. He's a good man. I have sent info in and he has responded and I haven't heard anything back and I see a kids name added. he will get it handled.
