I watched until mid 4th qtr and figured CF didn't have it in them to win. I will have to watch the replay as I think Ankeny outplayed the Tigers the entire game.

However, good teams find a way to win

Cedar Falls did have key penalties at key times that took away some scoring opportunities.

Bettendorf 49, Dubuque Hempstead 7 Third coach in three games for the Mustangs.

What's the story with the revolving head coach issue? That's not a bad FB team at all, the QB is fairly mobile, RB's ran hard, DB's had good coverage for the most part and they've got good size.

CF defense clearly not as good this year. Smallest defense they’ve had in years. As for some of the penalties, some seemed a little suspect. CF kept getting called for holding. They had this issue last year with at least one officiating crew that frankly wasn’t used to seeing an offensive line dwarf a defense, play that physically and blow teams off the ball. I’ll have to watch the replay sometime to be able to tell for sure though.

Special teams ultimately proved to be the difference. 80-yard kick return for CF, a missed PAT and subsequent 2-pt conversion attempt next score were killers for Ankeny.

The holding calls were atrocious. Not that CF didn’t hold on some of those, but Ankeny’s tackles held the ends over and over. Really awful. You’ll see it on the long TD run. Oh well, that’s part of the game.

The D-Line is bigger this year, but LBs are undersized. They’re fast and tough, but they got bullied tonight. When your kick returner is your OLB, that’s a sign. In ‘18, Campbell had such a high football IQ with physical presence, and Johnson was outstanding. Southworth was solid and physical. These guys have time to get there....only week 3.

Huge sack by Bohnenkamp in the 4th that led to Ankeny having to punt. Never got the ball back. Ankeny wasted their second half timeouts.

They didn’t play all three phases and CF did....just enough.

Finally, Ankeny is really, really good
