Friday Night Scores Comments

Pella 28
Solon 0
3rd quarter

Strange game, Solon has completely shut down Pella's running game, so Pella is just slinging it down the field and Solon can't stop them. I think Pella has negative rushing yards at this point. Solon has about 10 yards of offense for the whole game. They can't do anything at this point. Pella's D has completely throttled them.

As soon as I post that Solon marches right down the field.

Pella 28
Solon 7
1:28 left in the 3rd.

Glenwood 30, Carroll 27
Pella 28, Solon 14
Webster City 21, Boone 19
Xavier, Cedar Rapids 38, Waverly-Shell Rock 14

I'd say Pella and Solon was your title game. If you gave Solon a 6' 5" wideout and gave Pella one of Solon's 5'7" corners the game is probably still in overtime. Maybe not though, Pella abandoned the run and Solon didn't so Pella might have still won. Heck of a ballgame.

Basically it came down to field position, a somewhat questionable touchdown catch (Pella up 6-0), and an offsides call on Solon at the end of the first half. Pella looked to be running the clock out up 6-0 and Solon lined up offsides, Pella threw deep next play and Solon seemed to blow coverage. So what could have been 6-0 at the half with both teams in the negative offensively turned into both, a 14-0 (2pt play) and Pella getting some positive yardage. Glad I chose to go to this one, although I'm not happy I missed the Regina/PC game. Outstanding defense and classy players on both sides. The game changer was essentially Pella being taller on the outside and being able to protect Finney with the other 8 players. I'm interested to see how Xavier handles this, man coverage with small corners won't work.

Good luck to all teams that advanced to the Final Four. Can't wait to watch Xavier and Pella!

I haven't seen Pella have to abandon the run in years, can't remember the last time actually. Solon's run D was stellar.

I wouldn't say this was the title game as I think Xavier will give Pella fits. In fact, I see Xavier as the favorite. Also, Glenwood and Webster City will have something to say about it.

I wil say that having 2 6'5" wideouts along with a 6'3", 230 lb TE make it very hard to stop the passing game. Interesting to see how Xavier deals with them.
