So what happened to FD? There were many throughout the season had this team picked as a "Dome Team". Over the last few weeks one could argue they are average at best... what the heck happened or were they simply given to much credit?

At the time that Ft. Dodge was 6-0, their strength of schedule ranked 46th out of 48 4A teams.
The disparity in talent levels across 4A teams is unbelievable. I'm a SEP fan and we clearly
dominated the Dodgers (42-0 last night). That being said, Valley had us down at the half 35-0
and we'll probably be lucky to stay within 3 TD's of Dowling Monday night. You can only play
who's on your schedule, but we've clearly seen that just because you beat a bunch of horrible
teams 50-0 it doesn't mean you're good.

Agree; records mean little if you're not playing a decent schedule. If a 4A team doesn't face at least one team the caliber of Valley, Dowling, CR Kennedy or Bettendorf (and a few others), a fan can think their team is a lot better than they actually are. There are even some top 3A teams that could beat 75% of 4A teams on any given night.

46th out of 48 or 45th out of 46... six of one, half a dozen of the other. Doesn't really matter. Hawkod's point is valid in that their strength of schedule was very near the bottom.

I agree, but if you're going to throw out statistic specific numbers, get'em right or prepare to be corrected. When I put out all my stuff, I welcome corrections if my numbers are incorrect.

Screwloose:
Thanks for correcting my 2 mistakes. I thought the largest 48 were in 4A like in basketball.
My memory on being ranked 46th in strength of schedule was wrong as well; review of
BC Moore site shows was actually 45th.

Your corrections hammer home my point even more:
-A schedule ranked 45th out of 46 is even more pathetic than 46th out of 48.

The east side of the state had their version of Fort Dodge in Hempstead. Whey they were 5-1 and played 1-5 Iowa City West they got smoked. ICW has losses to Kennedy, Wash, Valley, Bett?, City High.

The team I am waiting on is CR Jefferson. 7-3 right, haven't beaten a team with a winning record, lost to CF in overtime, but got shellacked by Kennedy. Played Wash week 1 and they were tied going into the 4th quarter before Wash pulled away. I have a hard time seeing them win the rematch Monday.

It's pretty remarkable that Jefferson is even in the discussion at this point. They were terrible before Webb got there, he's done a heck of a job

Yeah hawkod, I hope you didn't think I was crapping on you, just a point. I knew exactly what you were saying though.

As for Fort Dodge, you can't completely fault them for their schedule - the state controls all of those. They did what a good team should have done though, they destroyed those teams. Didn't mean they were elite, but you can't say they weren't at least a good team, or those others would have done the same against each other when they played head-to-head.
