Cedar Falls - The 2014 CF schedule versus the 2013 schedule...seems as though the pickup of Ames and Urbandale are good. Mason City might renew a long term matchup in the future. Gone are any of the Dubuque teams. No Xavier in week 8, but Cedar Rapids Kennedy should be plenty tough.

Cedar Rapids Jefferson - A big winner from the changes? I think so. Gone are some crushing games from a physical standpoint. Just a few more miles on the bus for themselves of their opponents.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy - A tough schedule, then some breathers, then week 8 with Cedar Falls. Look for Cedar Rapids Kennedy to come out of the blocks fast and have a good season. If like previous years, slow starts, then a lot of losses in a row. But I think the Cougars do well with this schedule.

Cedar Rapids Washington - Maybe the most interesting schedule, especially if CRW can play at a high level consistently.

Dubuque Hempstead - Should make the playoffs, although maybe a bit of a limp from some late season challenges. Winner, winner, chicken dinner on the schedule.

Dubuque Senior - Plays the perennial first division MAC attacks. The majority of the rest are Berwanger material...pose in the end zone.

Iowa City High - A stout schedule, but still the second toughest in Iowa City.

Iowa City West - No wonder the coach left! The Trojans will need that horse to get to win some games. Toughest schedule of the former MVC?

LinnMar - Maybe not Iowa City tough, but a pretty good lineup of teams for a ballclub that might be somewhat average. We'll see.

Prairie, Cedar Rapids - A couple of tough ones well into the season, but a good year to recover from losses of 2013 seniors.

Waterloo East - Not a difficult schedule, but there still might be tight games.

Waterloo West - One game more difficult than the in town rivals.

Wahlert Catholic, Dubuque - Poor Golden Eagles...they thought 3A would be easier, but they drew some tough matchups in Solon, Xavier, Assumption and their Dubuque rivals.

Xavier, Cedar Rapids - The first third of the season might have the Saints looking for divine mercy, but the week 8 matchup is one made in heaven.

Interesting overview. I'm more of a basketball guy than a footballer, but, districts or no districts, the same old power teams will prevail whether playing in conference or in districts, especially in 4A. Until Xavier's current student body graduates, look for them to control 3A. I think Dub. Hempstead is set for a big year in football in 4A, but when it is all said and done, Valley or Dowling from the Des Moines Metro area will win the 4A champsionship.

A look at ICW's schedule should convince folks that districts in Eastern Iowa has changed things.
The opening matchup with CRK, two new coaches with roots in the programs, should reflect on overall team commitment and readiness...who worked harder.
The second week matchup at Valley will be part of the breakup of the East/West divide, thanks to districts.
Another away game with CRW is big in week 3, CRW might be the leading team in Eastern Iowa.
The Battle for the Boot is next, with the relative health of both teams being a consideration.
Davenport Central in week 5, that has to be called a breather, doesn't it?
Hosting Bettendorf will be right back on the treadmill.
Dubuque Hempstead could be a challenging game, the earlier season will prove it out.
Davenport North? A tuneup game?
Pleasant Valley in the last week should be two strong programs and an indication on how they've progressed through the year.

This schedule is a lot tougher than the last two years for ICW. Toughest schedule on the Eastern side of 4A.

As far as recent tradition stands and looking at JUST out-of-district games...Cedar Rapids Kennedy, Iowa City High and Iowa City West have some real grinders. Cedar Falls did to a slightly lesser degree.

Of the old Mac affiliates...North Scott gets the toughy award, followed by Bettendorf and Pleasant Valley.

In the West...West Des oines Dowling, West Des Moines Valley, Southeast Polk, Waukee. Ames not too far behind that.
