Former Bettendorf Bulldogs Varsity Baseball Coach Jay Fitzgerald Arrested

Jay Lee Fitzgerald, 57, physical education teacher at Bettendorf High School, was being held late Wednesday, July 4, 2019 in Scott County Jail on a charge of domestic assault with injury, a misdemeanor to his wife, Susan Feltes-Fitzgerald. He was held without bond.

LeClaire Police Department (LEPD) arrested Jay Fitzgerald on Wednesday, July 4, 2019 at 3:45 p.m. He is scheduled to appear in Scott County District Court at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 5, 2019. He spent 19 hours 18 minutes in jail, before being released by
Lederman Bonding Company.

Jay Fitzgerald served as the Bettendorf Bulldogs varsity head coach for 21 seasons from 1997 to 2017. He amassed a record of 494-302-1. He holds numerous Bettendorf Bulldogs varsity baseball records as being the longest tenured head coach (21 seasons), most games coached (797), games won (494), games lost (302) and best winning percentage (0.621)

He took the Bettendorf Bulldogs varsity team to the 1998 4A State Championship game. But, lost 3-2 to Des Moines Lincoln. He also appeared in the State Tournament in 2002, losing in the Quarterfinals.
