Dubuque Wahlert loses 2nd straight squeaker to a 4A team, as an improved Dubuque Senior comes from behind in OT to win 27- 24 at the Loras College Rock Bowl. Great game. Wahlert's leading rusher sat out 2nd half with ice on shoulder. I still think Wahlert will be dangerous in 3A District 4.

Davenport Assumption blown out by Bettendorf tonight.
Pella goes down to DC-G in a surprise.

DCG scores late and stops the Pella streak, 10-7.

Mustangs totally stuffed Pella's running game. Pella finally found their passing game to start the second half and picked up their only score but without being able to control the game on offense Pella's 2 ways wore down on D in the end. DCG did have 3 trips inside the Pella 10 and yielded only 3 points but IMO the last empty trip they made inside the 10 really helped in picking up the 50+ YD slant that was the game winning TD.

DCG ran east/west on Pella in the 4th and gassed all of their 2 ways. I'm guessing this won't be the last time this season we see that strategy.

Just got back from the Pella/DCG game and it was a defensive battle. Pella was anchored with bad field position most of the game. DCG did a great job against Pella rushing attack and made the big play to take the game. It was a hard fought game and DCG was the better team tonight. Stickam80 does not mention that DCG was stopped inside Pella's 10 yard line because of Pella's defense, not because of a DCG mistake.

The game was not decided because Pella's defense was tired, but because of a well executed slant pass to the wide receiver who made a nice catch in stride.

Good Luck to DCG the rest of the way.

Totally agree with Pella's defensive stops inside the 10. They still have a salty defense and on a condensed field scoring is going to be tough and you better take what you can get. Hindsight is always perfect but if any mistake was made it was DCG going for it on a 4th and 2 running Clapper up the middle. With their defense playing solid a field goal makes it 6-0 and obviously would have left them in a position of kicking a field goal the 3rd time (in the 4th quarter) to go up 9-7 instead of having to try and go for it.

Can't agree with you on Pella not wearing down. It was a great slant play. Not taking anything away from the play but if you have access to Hudl go back to the prior series. (The 3rd time DCG got inside the Pella 10). DCG marched the ball down field attacking outside (both directions) and Pella could not stop them until they got down onto a condensed field. There was no doubt Pella was tired and the DCG coaches saw/exploited that. Had Pella been fresh would they have prevented the winning reception or run him down? Possibly.

Possibly.[/QUOTES

Let's face it! If Clapper scores on the 2 yr run you are calling it a good play call. If DCG does not score on that pass play and loses the game, then you are saying nothing about Pella defense being tired. Hindsight is always 20-20. I'm done!

No. If Clapper scored a touchdown on 4th and 2 I call that a risky play that paid off instead of a risky play that didn't pay off.

Pella got tired later in the game regardless of the outcome of that play. If you are going to have multiple kids that basically never leave the field you better be able to control the TOP or you risk the other team running offense that will wear them down.

Congrats to both teams on a hard fought game and best of luck the rest of the season.
