Highlighted Games

#16 Alburnett @ #7 South Winneshiek

This will be a good game in the opening round. Alburnett is coming off of a tough loss last week but Caves and Schulista lead a balanced offensive attack that is looking to make a run. South Winneshiek is led by Herold and a group of very good runners in a ground happy attack. South Winneshiek is coming off of a big win Friday and I think they ride that momentum and take this one 35-20.

West Lyon @ #8 Western Christian

These district foes unfortunately will be playing in the first round. They had a great game mid-season with West Lyon pulling out a 29-27 victory which is the only district blemish for Western Christian. West Lyon has a strong running game but I think Kooima and Western Christian’s balanced offensive attack get revenge at home. It will once again be close as Western Christian wins 31-24.

Class 1A

Games-- Winner

#16 Alburnett (7-2) vs. #7 South Winneshiek, Calmar (7-2)-- South Winneshiek I think this will be very close but the home team prevails

Bellevue (4-5) vs. #1 Regina, Iowa City (8-1)-- IC Regina Blow-out Alert!!!!! Regina big

Central Springs (3-6) vs. #4 Dike-New Hartford (8-1)-- Dike-New Hartford D-NH will be out for blood after this last Friday. Dike rolls

Columbus Community, Columbus Junction (3-6) vs. #2 West Branch (9-0)-- West Branch Blow-out Alert!!!!!!!!!!!!!! West Branch moves on

Des Moines Christian (4-5) vs. #14 Madrid (7-2)-- Madrid This game will be closer than most think. DMC keeps this one close but Madrid and their running game will be too much

Emmetsburg (5-4) vs. #9 Hinton (8-1)-- Hinton E-Burg back in the playoffs, but Hinton is too good in every area

#11 Hudson (7-2) vs. Sigourney/Keota (6-3)-- Hudson Interesting match-up and maybe the best of round 1. Hudson has too many horses and pull off the road win.

IKM-Manning (6-3) vs. #13 Pocahontas Area (7-2)-- IKM-Manning. I didn't like how Poky finished the season and IKM nips them on the road in this one.

Interstate 35, Truro (5-4) vs #3 Underwood (9-0)-- Underwood Underwood will have no troubles in this one

Jesup (6-3) vs. #5 Saint Ansgar (8-1)-- Saint Ansgar St. Ansgar has been on a roll lately. After Friday's game I almost went with Jesup, but with the travel for this game I will give it to the Saints

Manson Northwest Webster (3-6) vs. #6 Van Meter (8-1)-- Van Meter Don't know much of either team, so I will take the home team here

Missouri Valley (5-4) vs. #10 South Central Calhoun (8-1)-- SCC SCC is good enough to make it to the dome and I like them big here

Ogden (5-4) vs. #12 Panorama, Panora (8-1)-- Panorama Panorama is suspect after this round, but they get it done here

Pella Christian (6-3) vs. Wilton (5-4)-- Pella Christian Wilton plays in a very weak district and Pella Christian will beat them and show the rest of the state they are a very dangerous team

#14 Ridge View (7-2) vs. AHSTW, Avoca (6-3)-- AHSTW Very good game here with both teams being pretty evenly matched. AHSTW will come to play and they will take down a good Ridge View team.

West Lyon, Inwood (6-3) vs. #8 Western Christian, Hull (7-2)-- Western Christian WC has been playing good all season, but this one will be a nail-bitter. West Lyon just doesn't have enough to pull this one out

agree with most of it .. but I will take Jesup over SA

if you are giving up 250 yards rushing per game, I cannot agree with this.

SA will run the ball all night, and then run it suh-mo. Jesup's win vs DNH is wonderful. But I just cannot seeing that carry over.

Where in the world do you get your numbers WBBearsFollower? Not only did Jesup not give up 250 yards rushing PER game, they never gave up 250 in ANY game.

Denver had 234
East Buchanan had 221
Clayton Ridge had 2
Hudson had 170
MFL Mar Mac had 88
South Winn had 242
Sumner Fred had 113
BCLUW had 9
Dike NH had 249

1328 rushing yards allowed . . . or 147.6 per game.

^^^ meaning that if Jesup gives up 250 rushing yards to SA they are probably gonna lose. SA averages about 325-350 rush yards per outing.

If Jesup holds SA to the 147 yard average they win.

I read it the same way as Craigsnews did, was surprised at the thought of a team giving up 250 a game and being 6-3, my bad.

IKM @ Poky should be a good game IKM will be a VERY tough 3 seed. Don't take the Poky vs. SA to heart too much. Game was much closer than it looked on the scoreboard. Poky had if not the same amount, close to the same amount of chances to score as SA just made mental errors and didn't capitalize. Hoping they come hungry for blood come tomorrow as well.

I will say that I don't think we'll see as many blowouts in the first round this year. I think the State did a pretty good job of pairing teams up and on paper you could see several lower seeds competing with and even beating a higher seed depending on how well they play with the short turn-around.

West Lyon may be one of the tougher 4 seeds in recent memory and would probably give most of the 1 seeds in 1A a good game.
