Lewis Central is playing 4A Luke

Other than that not too bad, I am not sure Humboldt has the line to be ranked 5, and think Decorah will be good.

Definitely not far off the mark, IMO. I'd probably bump Heelan up to 4, but the rest of it after that (besides Lewis Central) looks pretty accurate.

harlan ranked 10th...hopefully they can keep that rank this year. harlan has 3 sophs , 14 juniors, and 5 seniors starting friday night. absense is senior leadship ..they will be a small and quick team this year...another juhl inherits the qb spot, jr..coach bladt has been happy with his progress....will see.

Big shocker to see those 3 at the top...

I'm not really concerned about the three private schools at the top. Heelan is the defending champ and the western half of the state is pretty much awful in 3A. If they lose more than one game, it'll be shocking.

But this was going to be a down year in 3A before Xavier and Assumption dropped down. Solon, Harlan and Decorah all have a lot of question marks and may struggle to answer them. They'll still win because most of the teams around them won't be any better, but they might not be all that good.

my #1 is heelan and they will win it all again...

I don't see Heelan getting past Xavier\Assumption from the East.

Assumption yes, Xavier no.

I will say it again - they have to run. They won't be able to just fling it up there without Solsma. You have to remember that Tobin did 1200 or so yards over 14 games and the games that he did put a 5+ YPC was against lesser teams in blowouts for the most part

Assumption had the #1 Defense in the MAC last year - they return most of that defense.

Quite the offensive juggernaut there in the MAC.

I will say it one more time....if Heelan can run the ball and get 5+ YPC out of their backs and they can keep opponents under 4 YPC they make it to the championship from the West. They have a good defensive line and a very good MLB along with a few other LBs that can play. Who they play from the East is yet to be seen.

If Heelan loses - at all during the season, it will be to a team that can run the ball against them.

It will be interesting to see how Gilbert does after their move to 3A. They have most of their key skill position players back, but moving a class is typically never an easy transition.

Heelan was such a strong passing team last year and I wonder how much that ability set up their run success. Of course the Heelan rush offense in years past has been stellar. What I'm not yet certain of is how able Heelan's rush offense will be this year if the rush has to be their bread and butter. Solsma was a special QB and will be missed.

Heelan's traditional bread & butter is running and stopping the run. Them winning the title last year wasn't an anomaly....but doing it the way they did---primarily via a wide-open passing game--was.

heelen had one of the most dominating passing offense,s i had witnessed in some time.. i watched them in the playoffs, and were non -stoppable.......heelens new transfer qb,, just wonder how good he is????.

Probably been mentioned somewhere, but is Wegher back at Heelan this year?
Not likely - why would he leave IMG to come back to Iowa? He is playing as a junior at IMG and doing well

hmmm...maybe i jumped to soon on my prediction on heelen....lot of games left though

Well I didn't see Heelan blowing chunks on both sides of the running game. I seriously thought they would have no problem stopping the run with a new TB at East ....but not being able to run against East...didn't see that. Sounds like new QB might not be the guy and if they can't get Tobin running it could be a tough end of season run.
