Feller out at Alburnett

They were at the same team camp as my son's team. He was a total a hole. Screamed and yelled and rode his kids the whole time. Their QB is a stud.

They missed the boat not hiring Ben Slife. Great coach, great person, from the area. Builds great relationships with kids.

Life would of been a terrible hire imho... He did nothing at West Liberty and to be a successful coach in this state you should be a teacher that allows you the most contact with your student-athletes which Slife is not.

I know a coach that has done quite well who isn't a teacher.

Cid those coaches are the outliers not the norm... AND mostly happen at private catholic schools ;)

I agree and know this. The OP indicated that the coach would have been a poor choice because of this. The merits of a coach have more to do with being able to teach rather then being a certified and employed teacher in a school. That being said there are advantages to being in a school seeing the players everyday. As well as some disadvantages.

The biggest factor with any coach is having a sincere and dedicated commitment about caring for the kids. That is what kids respond to. Non-teacher coaches can do just fine as long as they are active in the community and find ways to stay connected to the kids and parents on and off the field. Having a direct and personal involvement in any feeder program or programs is one good example. This is not exclusive to teachers if you can find a person dedicated enough.
