You have

Western
West Lyon
Rock Valley
Sheldon
Sioux Center
Hinton

Who are all really really good and will most likely all be in the same substate. Good Luck. Wow.

Hinton may get pulled South or maybe Sheldon to the East, but whichever team comes out of that substate will be very battle tested.

I agree! Should be a great season for hoops!

You need to show up every night in NW Iowa.

The state should send two of these teams in different directions ( maybe let the girls union bracket them!!)

Knowing how it has gone in past, they may just be in the same district.

This is where the girls union does a better job of getting the best teams to state. Hinton may go south, but I could see the rest bunched into a district. That would be 5 of the top 13 on bcmoore in a district.

Lots of good teams this year. Western is built a lot different this year. Everything will need to happen from penetration and kick or skip passes to three point shots. In the last 15 years they've had lots of size. Western is now guard orientated and will need to win in a little different fashion. Wouldn't surprise me if they are back at state this year. The record will have a few more losses because they will have some off nights shooting the three and their major for victory will be closer compared to years past. Good luck to all the teams.

Sad to say the Boys in Boone don't seem to have the "smarts" that the Girl's Athletic Union tends to have when it comes to setting up brackets for all sports..

This will all come down to Sheldon vs Western... again. With legends Struve and Eekhoff gone you have two (relatively) new coaches in each boys program, although I might give the edge to Harmsen with his years of experience with the Wolfpack girls program. I scouted the West Lyon-Sheldon game last week and will report that Sheldon is the real-deal this year. Quickness and deadly three point shooters from outside and enough size inside to provide good balance--and they all run the floor well. Spoke with someone after game and they said the only thing they haven't had to experience yet is a game with foul trouble for their bigs and/or a night when their shooters go cold at the same time. Not sure if both are Top 8 in 2A but very well could be--imagine once the brackets come out this will be the substate final matchup if everything plays out.

The Siouxland is always fun. At least you have teams in three different classes, so they aren't necessarily destined to face off in the postseason. Like four years ago, when there were two state champs and a 3rd place out of that league.

Sheldon...decent. Boyden Hull made them look very human tonight (should've beat them actually). I've seen both Sheldon and west Lyon play and I can't believe Sheldon beat west Lyon last week the way they did. I would give the long term edge to west Lyon and Sioux center having the best chance to beat western. And for the record I think neither will. Western beats Sheldon by 15 heads up on a neutral court Right Now in my opinion.

I think you guys are forgetting rock valley. with taylor now back on the backend and their guards pressure the ball so well, they are hard to score on.

You have always had to really earn your way to state coming out of NW Iowa. This year appears to be no different. In fact I think this is one of the toughest fields NW Iowa has had for quite a while. 6 really good teams. I would love to see a Western-Sheldon face-off in the substate final. I miss that rivalry. Some great basketball games over the years.

I hope the state doesn't try to split things up too much. I can remember many a year having dogfights in dictricts and substate only for the winner to just blow out whoever they played first round at state. I like it that way. Gives the NW Iowa teams an edge when they get down to state as they are battle tested and not going to fold when they run into tough teams. The competition level up there is a big reason why NW Iowa does so incredibly well every year at state.
