Effect of Cancellations

It's going to be interesting to see how the final 11 days for 1A and 2A, and 18 days of the regular season for 4A and 3A play out with so many teams having multiple games canceled and rescheduled, or not rescheduled in some cases. Curt Deutsch, head coach at Dub. Hemostead, is quoted as saying, "We have an NBA schedule coming up with five games in eight days." Some other teams have seven or, in many cases, eight games yet to play. Does anyone think that some of these games should just be canceled? With substate play starting on Feb. 11 or 18th for many schools, that doesn't leave much time for players to "get their tired legs back in shape" for the tourney run. School is canceled again tomorrow in much of the state, so we'll be in February before kids go back to school. I think some of these late games should be canceled. What do you think?

I think we'll find out which teams are deep enough to handle the schedule. Playoff brackets are already set, so it doesn't really matter much anyway.

Our teams have games Fri, Sat, Mon, Tues then the girls have their 1st round game Thursday the same night the boys play what was supposed to be their last non-con game, but they now have a makeup game next Sat as well. We ended up with a conference game cancelled complete, because no date was available without going into Wed, which neither team wanted.

Thanks, SSG T. Don't you think it's even worse for 1A and 2A which have an even smaller window to straighten out the scheduling mess? Part of the problem for all classes is getting refs for the games and gyms that aren't already committed to another event. I can't remember something like this (scheduling problems) ever happening before.

Yeah, my daughter coach wasn't happy a game got rescheduled to Tues when their 1st round game is Thurs. The nice thing is, our 1st round game is against a team we already beat by 19 earlier in the year, so it will hopefully work out.

And yeah, it's a headache for various reasons. I know our AD was trying to line up refs while trying to reschedule, that was a huge problem, with a boys game going on at the same time as girls districts. Plus, that many games and no practices...our girls team will have two practices between now and their 1st round district.

They don't have to play all of their scheduled games before the tournament. Both IGHSAU and IHSAA allow for "regular season" games to be played during the postseason, if both schools agree.
