Hard to believe that the Lansing kid from NFV didn't make 1st team, and they chose the kid from Mt. Vernon over him. Also, NFV had zero first team defensive players? Also, difficult to comprehend. Several Sioux Center kids deserved better. While, Albia, who got absolutely obliterated by Sioux Center, puts five on first team? Goes to show you that the closer you are to Des Moines the better your chances. Pretty typical of the Register, has been that way for decades.

Yes, I found it pretty hard to believe that NFV did not have any first team all state defensive selections, considering they had the top defense in the state. I could probably name over half the starting 11 that could have at least earned second team. The Lansing kid not being named to first team was a real head scratcher, considering he had nearly 30 solo TFL.

How can anyone explain why Mat Cox did not make first team at WR. Led the state in yardage td's at that spot. n
No one close to his numbers.

How about the fact that albia gets 6 and district three has 9 combined. NFV, NH, Beckman, and CPU were quite possible 4 of the top 10 in the state but albia has 6.. Albia might have been 3rd or 4th place team in D3 or D1.

This was possibly the worst all state team I've seen in 30 years.

Agreed. NFV had the best defense in 2A this past season and didn't have a single player on first-team defense. They also only had ONE person on first-team offense. SMH

The Cox's kids numbers are impressive but saying no one was close is absolutely not knowing at the stats. The Bergfeld kid from Cascade caught 74 passes for 1184 yards and 14 TD's. These numbers do not include the last playoff game. North Polk lost 5 games some by a high margin meaning they probably passed more than normal trying to catch up. Cascade was the opposite in most games getting out to large leads early. Cascade also had 5 yes 5 talented other receivers on the team so he was far from the only passing target.
