Curious on how West Branch and Regina ended up in different districts?? They are like 8 miles apart.

I think almost everyone who is familiar with 1A football on the east side of the state is aware of why Regina and West Branch aren't in the same district...unreal. West Marshall...? Thats gotta be over a 2 hour drive, its a shame Regina won't be playing WB and Wilton this year, for sure two of the best district games they have played in in 1A. Besides the ridiculous drives to schools like EBF, pella christian and West marshall, they really got shafted with the separation of some district rivals. Oh well..play on!

West Marshall's District driving time via google maps.

Columbus Junction 2:10
Highland-Riverside 1:49
Sigourney-Keota 1:43
Regina 1:42
Eddyville-Blakesburg 1:26
Pella Christian 1:04

Pretty ridiculous.

Any other school have this kind of driving distance for district games?

I wonder who they will put WM with for non-district?

Here are my guesses based on the district geography.

Central Lyon-George-Little Rock
Council Bluffs-St. Albert
Dyersville-Beckman

Cool the "Biggest" little 1a school is back to dominate all the little schools again! Can't face competition up at 2a or even 3a. If you can beat Solon 30 some to 0, by gosh its a good thing your still in 1a. Must be running out of recruits and can't move up a class or two. Must feel like an idiot being part of that Regina train, I wouldn't feel very cool if I was on it. Undeserved accomplishments.

Woodward Granger and Woodward Academy are about 3 blocks apart and in different districts. Madrid is 5 miles from Woodward Granger in a different district. It looks like a lot of deep thought has gone into these...

Well its fairly obvious they increased the regular season travel distances so they can meet their goal of reducing travel for cross district games in the playoffs. Somebody's getting a bonus in their paycheck!

I assume you mean that there will likely be larger gate receipts for the playoff games,(the association only gets a cut of post season gates not regular season) thus increasing the association revenues which in turn line the pockets of the folks running the association.

Yep, it's about the kids.

GreasedPig: I assume you are saying the same things about Xavier, West Marshall, Maquoketa Valley, Assumption. All of these programs actually moved down. Sorry that your team can't handle the Regals. Get over it! You are a joke and your posts are somewhat embarrassing. Most of the teams stayed in their respective classifications as the enrollments dictated. Maybe a few went up, not sure. Your posts seem to say the same thing over and over, its old.

Your so smart Printit. I never realized how dumb I was. I'm glad you brought that to my attention! how thoughtful of you

Regina is the school that is the furthest west out of the teams in their district. Geographically, it makes the most sense but in all reality it does suck they do not play West Branch and Wilton. Certainly some interesting districts across the state in all classes.

I feel very sorry for Class A district 5, Parmely will destroy that district, they really should have lobbied to play up a class.

Lisbon will be tough and Starmont always plays good football. It will not be a walk in the park for MV. Not sure why you feel sorry for any body. Parmley is a great runningback. It would be fun to see him play Regina in non-district

I find it hilarious that anyone from Regina would use the sentence, "they really should have lobbied to play up a class".

MV graduated the majority of its O-Line. Two of which received all-state honors.
Players like that do not just grow on trees in Delhi....or anywhere else.

Craig glad you could join us, good pick up on the sarcasm, gold star for you. I will take MV against the field in that district.

Starmont won't lay down for MV, but I agree they should be the class of the district, if not the class. Which districts do you see as the most difficult in 1A?

I see D4 as a dog fight between South Winn, Clayton Ridge, Dike New Hartford, and Sumner Fred. That will make for some entertaining Friday nights!

5# will be a dog fight at the top with Wilton and West Branch. Not familiar with the west side that much. District 7 has some names that I recognize but I don't know what those teams have coming back.

District 2 looks top heavy with West Lyon and Hinton.

District 3 could be solid with E Burg Eagle Grove and St. Ansgar.

It is too bad Regina probably wont play West Brach, regal fans are pretty upset...WB fans not so much. The state can make up for this districting mess for Regina if they schedule them with Xavier, Assumption, Wahlert, and maybe Solon for non district...don't even be surprised if Regina writes down Iowa City West for their non district list, could be some fun games in the non district. Although there might be some long drives it will be interesting to see some unfamiliar teams like West Marshall and Pella Christian, which sounds like a name of a private school so using message board logic they are probably at an unfair advantage and should challenge for the district..guess we will find out

I do not believe eagle grove has won more than 2-5 games the last 3 yrs. Should be between Hinton and West lyon

About as expected, but it's kinda funny how they took a few teams in different directions to try and "mix things up".

Eagle Grove and West Fork have to go past Fort Dodge and Manson (albeit they're south of) to get to Pocahontas and Emmetsburg.

Still a good shot for a Regina vs. West Branch in the cross over non district game.

10 miles apart and in different districts, big rivals, great gate for both schools. If there is ever a game the state should schedule, it is this one.

Isn't that what high school football is about. Not sending a team an hour away to play someone you don't even know!!!

The situation was the same in 2010 and 2011 but the state made Regina play Class A BGM rather than local rivals. Not sure why that happened :) so I am not sure I trust the state to make those things work.

Actually, the 'rivalry' games did not take place in 2010-11. All districts had 8 teams for those years.

WB got North Cedar the last couple of years. Which I loved. In my book, the are on par with the Regals in terms of rivalry now.

I will prognosticate that WB may play West Liberty, Tipton, or Sig-Keota in that 3rd non-district game. For some reason I doubt the IAHSAA will have the cohones to scheduled ICR vs WB

That is what I was referring to, for non district games in 10 and 11 the state gave Regina Solon and Class A(when Regina was 2A)BGM rather than WB, I don't know if it was because the schools didn't put each other on the list of teams to play but the state didn't schedule it. I am guessing they will follow that pattern again.

My guess is that Regina will get Solon, as it seems like a rivalry, then after that, CID says that they are going to put IC West on their list, I would think that the state may look at another catholic school for them.

I have heard rumors that Solon is taking Regina off their list this year, not going to say its true at all just what I have heard. As for Regina I am not sure if West Branch will make there list, it will most likely include the 3 new catholic schools in 3A and Solon and West High (City High has stated they have no interest in playing Regina) should be interesting. If Regina and WB take care of business they will meet in the playoffs and the state will be licking their chops...$$$$$$

Pribs I have heard the same rumblings that you have. I did hear that City may play a freshman game against Regina, the last one didn't turn out so good for City.

What, you mean lots of people will pay whatever amount of money the state tells them to so they can go watch Regina win another blowout?

Meh.

D5 will be interesting. WB returns a number of starters but did lose 2 or 3 key players. Wilton lost alot of weapons with QB, RB, LB. The team people forget is North Cedar. They could be the darkhorse in the district.

Jayden Johnson returns at QB, but they lost every other conceivable weapon other than the #4 WR by yardage.

The Knights won their 1st 5 games before losing their next 5 (in 2013).

Sorry, just cannot seeing them being a factor for the top spot.
But, they could be a playoff qualifier.

The D5 race will be between Wilton and WB. Book it.

I agree with blame on that one. Also blame, who do you think/want WB to have on their non district schedule?

Lisbon
West Liberty
Tipton

No insider info, just a guess.
Those seem logical.

Then again, the IHSAA having WB v Regina in the "rivalry" game would be logical as well.

For someone to guarantee the outcome of D5 in January would have to be:

a) very knowledgeable of every team in that district
b) physic
c) very arrogant
d) a combination of the above

I don't really see anyone giving Regina a very good game in District 6. Don't know a lot about West Marshall though.

District 5 will probably come down to Wilton and West Branch, although I think North Cedar will be better than people are giving them credit for. They have a great player at qb in Johnson. Wapello played a lot of young players last year, but needs to replace a very good qb.

The biggest problem for the District 5 teams for the next two years is that to get to Cedar Falls they will most likely have to beat Regina in the playoffs.

I know West Lyon had a great team last year, anyone know what they will be like next season?
