I was looking at the power rankings on Varsity Bound and it got me thinking who were the best or toughest districts in the state. I did class A here, and will try to do the others if I have time.

Basically all I did was take the rankings of each of the members of the districts and added up the total number of the rankings, the lowest total was the best and the highest the worst.

1. District 3
Score: 139
They have by far the lowest total, and also the #1 ranked team. The lowest team in the district North Tama is at 35 which is relatively good, and also beat a playoff team from another district.

2. District 7
Score: 181
They have the #3 team and then two other teams in the top 16 which makes it the only district with 3 teams in the top 16. They do have a couple of teams in the 40s.

3. District 4
Score: 200
Two teams in the top 10 at 7 and 8, they are hurt by a the bottom teams in the district which are lower then some.

4. District 2
Score: 202
The #2 team is in this district and two other quality teams at #11 and #19, some might argue that STA at #19 is low. They are hurt by two teams in the 50s.

5. District 1
Score: 206
HMS leads the way at #10, they have two very good loses though, then a few in the middle of the pack and a few in the 40s.

6. District 5
Score: 208
Two top 10 teams at 6 and 9, then one at 20 and one in the 30s, but 3 teams in the 40s and 50s hurts this district.

7. District 8
Score: 215
Woodbury Central is at 4, and LoMa is at 16, but after that the computer doesn't really care for this district.

8. District 6
Score: 246
I do think Lynnville Sully is a quality team at number 5. However I question if they are battle tested enough. This district is very weak after them. Madrid the number 2 is at 22, which is quite low for a 5-2 team.

1A
1. D5 (87), by far the lowest, four in the top 12, WB, Mepo, Durant, ICR
2. D3 (129)
3. D4 (133)
4. D1 (147) two in the top 9, West Sioux and Western Christian then four 29-39
5. D8 (156) saving grace here with two in the top 5 with Kuemper and Underwood
6. D6 (161)
7. D7 (163)
8. D2 (200) only 2 teams over .500

1A. D 2 is rough. Not much there. Then you have D3 with Denver sitting at third. Man who wants to see them roll into town. Ugh.

Great idea PNation!!
Here's 2A (hopefully I did it right):

1. District 2- 86 (Wow, two teams in the top 6, all six teams in the top 28)
2. District 8- 122 (four teams in the top 22, carried by Greene County at #5)
3. District 3- 129 (three teams in the top 10, then it drops off a bit)
4. District 7- 151 (three teams in the top 23, carried by West Marshall at #4)
5/6. District 4- 159 (a little weaker than I expected, three teams in top 18 then a big drop off)
5/6. District 6- 159 (three teams in the top 16 but weak at the bottom, carried by Williamsburg at #3)
7. District 1- 160 (two teams in the top 9, but bottom of the district is weak)
8. District 5- 209 (only one team in top 25, Monticello right at #25)

I would order them quite a bit different in 2A (probably based more off of the top 4 in each):

**The strength of schedule of D1,D2, and D3 is way tougher than the rest.

D2 - Deep district with defending state champs not even in top 4.
D3 - The best strength of schedule (top 4) of any district.
D1 - #1 team in the state and other top 3 are all in top 25. Bottom 2 are bad.
D4 - 2 Top 10 teams then it drops quite a bit.
D8 - Greene is #13 on BCmoore and that seems accurate. Next 3 are all ok.
D7 - West Marshall is a very solid team in their 1 spot. Not familiar with the rest But very weak SOS.
D6 - Would say Williamsburg is #1 or #2 but the rest of the district is very below average.
D5 - No offense to D5 but I doubt their top team would be would be in the top 2 in district 1-3.

I would generally agree with you USF!! Everyone knows D1 is better than the 7th best district in 2A since they have maybe the best team in the state plus another top 10 team. But that's the difference between a true poll and a power ranking where it takes into account all the teams and it can pull down a district's rank.

FWIW BCMoore also ranks D1 as the 3rd best in 2A.

Here’s 1A BC Moore, all districts within single digit point totals except D5 (-22) and D1 (+13) and same order overall. I’d probably go with BC Moore over Bound.

1. D5 (109), Mepo -6 and Durant -9 vs Bound
2. D3 (122)
3. D4 (130)
4. D1 (134)
5. D8 (155)
6. D6 (160)
7. D7 (170)
8. D2 (196)

Their RB Schoville is an absolute handful. Ran for 251 against a historically very good DNH defense last week. Has to be the most yards anyone's run for in quite some time against them
