In 1A they put Grand View Christian and Ankeny Christian in different substates.
It’s nice that they separated Boyden-Hull and Western when they are in the same town...
Not as important as protecting Western and Boyden-Hull....but especially Western.

Um, Western’s not even the highest ranked team in their district (West Sioux).
3 ranked teams in Sioux County. The highest got their own district & they put the other 2 together, a good model for the whole state.
Congrats though for trying to get more of the best teams to Des Moines.

Or maybe I need to amend that as well, since the person I quoted was using BCMoore, and in his rankings, Western is several spots ahead of the athletics powerhouse West Sioux.
People complain about good teams meeting before the state tournament every year. Now there's an example of them trying to split decent teams up and that's not good either apparently. As stated before, Western isn't leading their district in rankings. Im sure they don't take BC Moore into account when making the district pairings so thats not much of an argument. Neither team has a cake walk with BH facing Sioux Center in the same district and Western playing Rock Valley in their district (who has a good chance to take out Western)
I think that BC Moore rankings are in the back of a lot of heads that make up district pairings; not all, but some (because who you play does make a difference.) They use geography, strength of schedule and records. Geography is always the spoiler. And some may think that the IHSAA committee that makes up districts for the classes is this big team of learned basketball scholars. It's probably two guys and one has about 80% of the influence. You can bet when the 3A pairings come out that undefeated Clear Lake has a smooth sail, and undefeated Maquoketa's in with a bunch of hungry animals because of their location. I don't know if you can ever completely make everybody happy because of the bunched geography in our state.
