Entering district play, it looks like an obvious 3-way race between Hinton, HMS, and Akron-Westfield. Here is the slate for week 5:

Akron-Westfield (3-1) at Hinton (4-0)
Gehlen Catholic (0-4) at MMCRU (0-3)
HMS (3-1) at South O'Brien (1-3)

What are everyone's predictions for the rest of the year? Should be an interesting race, but we will have some idea after the Hinton/AW game this week.

I will take Akron (too many weapons/offensive looks)
Gehlen Catholic
HMS

Lol this district is definitely not awful. But I think it’s pretty well a 2 team race between Hinton and Akron. HMS has the record but I just feel the other 2 teams are more talented. Maybe I’m wrong but that’s just how I feel. Definitely will only get 1 team in though. Won’t be an easy out though, that’s for sure

HMS just doesn't have the size that Hinton and AW have. If they can find a way to overcome that, I'd put their skill players up against almost anyone in the state

I think any 3 of those teams can win this district. They all do some things well. Health will be a big concern for all of them in skill areas. I feel Akron causes many match up concerns with their spread/tempo offense. They just have so many different looks and players that get the ball in their hands.

Two weeks into district play and this is how the standings look:

South O'Brien, Paullina (2-0)
Akron-Westfield (1-1)
Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (1-1)
Hinton (1-1)
Gehlen Catholic, LeMars (1-1)
MMCRU (0-2)

Game of week 7 will obviously be HMS @ Akron, as HMS has the 21-7 win over Hinton but Akron only lost to them by a point. South O'Brien is looking suddenly impressive but will have to see the last two weeks when they play Akron and Hinton. Seems like a below-average but very well-balanced district near the top.

Gehlen Catholic, LeMars at South O'Brien, Paullina
HMS at Akron-Westfield
MMCRU at Hinton

Hinton is far from healthy. Played running backs on the line Friday night due to the loss of 4 lineman in the last week. Its unfortunate but part of the game. Still any teams district at this point.
