Tonight is the matchup. DCG has beaten Perry 13 straight times by an average of 22 points but this is without doubt the best Perry team DCG has faced during that span.

On paper this one belongs to DCG but anything can happen !?!?!?!?!

Could be a good game.

Stickman.....quit living in the past!

Perry will win only if they can get some easy buckets in transition. DCG definitely has the advantage in the paint with their big guy Rix, which not many teams will have an answer for.

Perry will probably need to get some up tempo going, hit the threes and try to get DCG to make it an up and down game. If DCG makes it a "stick in the mud" type of game, I think Perry might be in trouble. DCG is big. But, they can be run on and pressed. If Perry can make it more of a track meet, I like their chances.

Spot on assessment...we handled Norwalk, who handled DCG twice with that formula. Speed it up, hit 3's early and make DCG chase us...and I like Perry's chances.

Using common opponents can sometimes have some validity BUT there has already been a direct meeting between Perry and DCG earlier this year and Perry lost by double digits. Just saying

I was at the game--thought after 1st quarter there was no way Perry could hang. Thought at half when DCG was up 13 it felt more like 20. But half way through the 4th--I thought Perry would win unless they ran out of time. GREAT effort by the Perry kids--they showed how effort and intensity can make up for a lack of talent. I was extremely impressed with how they kept trapping and harassing the entire game. The more talented team probably won--but not the harder working team. Crowd for both teams was excellent as well. A great example of what Substate games should feel like...except for all the turnovers and missed FT's by DCG that is...uggh.

It really turned into a great game after looking like Perry was done for. DCG came out strong and the Perry guys just looked shell shocked. I was impressed with the DCG defense, they clogged up passing lanes and forced Perry into taking some bad shots. Trey Washington really impressed with the way he handled Perry's aggressive D. He never seemed to be really flustered by it and was constantly finding the open guy. He was really the difference maker for DCG. Perry definitely showed they know how to scrap though. They just fought their way back into the game through pure force of will it seemed. Throw in hitting some huge 3's and they made it a much more exciting ending then it looked like we were going to get. Even though they came up short it was still a great year for Perry and a good experience for a team that is returning a lot of key players next year.

Perry will be a tough out next year. Kids coming back benefitted from the success this team had. Proud of their effort all year.

Moving on to track...

Is he out for track?

He decided to do the SDSU spring weight program instead of track. It is heavy on squats and bench which was going to hamper his sprinting and jumping b/c it is a 5 day a week program. He went out for golf to keep his competitive juices going and has played pretty good. He's getting ready for baseball too.

I can't believe any College FB coach wouldn't encourage any skill position player to run track his senior year.

I've seen a few kids do this and about everyone wishes they would of stayed out for track.A young man has the rest of his life to hit golf balls but Track and field will get you ready in so many ways for the next level.Imo

I'm NOT pointing a finger at your son but this way of thinking for HS Seniors drives me crazy.

He made a special trip up there to discuss this specifically with them...they were more than OK on not participating in track. I brought up all the pros, including how it helps in baseball, but with the lifting and conditioning in the program and the fact they would like about 5 more pounds on him, the HC told him that was plenty. I love track...and miss it, but I am backing him on this decision. Playing up there ASAP is his goal. And proving the doubters wrong is also pretty high on his list.

I think he will do well and college coaches are varied across the board, my son was told he was red shirting so as long as he lifted he could play baseball, this year an FCS guy was told track was good but no baseball so the programs and coaches are unique.

I'm not surprised that Willie is skipping track to hit the weightroom. I seem to remember someone who has seen him play multiple times in multiple sports commenting that in his opinion Will needed some serious work in the weight room before being ready to play at the next level...even as a Jackrabbit

Friday, I agree with what you are saying. Kids are better off doing what they would like to do in high school sports. Very rarely will you get a college HC telling the kids to do one thing or another.....they will feel out the kid and may make suggestions based on what the kid really wants to do anyway but they aren't going to flat out tell the kid what they think he should do the remainder of his high school career. That can only lead to trouble both while the kid finishes high school AND after he arrives on campus.

I hope Will's decision works well for him. If he is looking to try to break into play time as quickly as possible it may help him BUT he still shouldn't get his hopes too high that he will be ripping it up as a freshman. For the first time in his life he will actually be competing against others on his team for play time.

That's good. I don't blame him.....although being a huge track fan myself....competing in the Drake Relays and State Track Meet is tough to beat.

Speed and Flexibility is what gets most of these kids to the next level and if you don't maintain that it doesn't matter on much weight they lift.
I know kids like the Cotton boys from Mt.P.James Morris,Tanner Miller and Josey Jewell ect.. all it the track very hard for this reason.

I wish I could find a letter that Tim Dwight wrote to the local HS I support on how important track was in developing him in to the football player he was.
