Week 9. Seems like the season just started in many ways. Coolness in the air, leaves falling and playoff football just around the corner. Here we go:

Carlisle at Oskaloosa : Carlisle put a hurt on Chariton last week while Osky got down a mile to Knoxville before storming back in the 4th quarter to make it a game. I thought the Carlisle-Chariton game would be a better game, but the Wildcats won big. I think they will win big again this week. Again, if you allow Carlisle to run the ball then they will cram it down your throat with a timely big pass play thrown in. Carlisle 42 Osky 14

Chariton at Pella : Chariton has had a nice year and is the favorite to get the 4th playoff spot, but this will be another long game for them, like last week. Pella's speed and line play will give Chariton all kinds of problems. Hockenson will get his catches, but Pella will probably have Will Warner blanketing him all night like last year, which was very effective. Pella 54 Chariton 7

Norwalk at Knoxville : Big game for Knoxville. Win and they are in the playoffs, lose and they probably are not unless they can keep it a very close game. Knoxville has been very suspect against the pass this year which is not a good thing against Norwalk. Knoxville will be very spirited and will keep it close for 2 or 3 quarters, but I don't think they have the horses to keep up with Norwalk. Norwalk 42 Knoxville 24

Saydel at East Marshall, LeGrand ( (ND)) : I picked Saydel to win this game last year, which they didn't. I swore then I wouldn't pick them again, so I won't. East Marshall 21 Saydel 14

Looks like we will probably end up with

1. Pella
2. Norwalk
3. Carlisle
4. Chariton

Kid laid out the possible scenarios, so won't rehash those. I think an interesting aspect of the playoff predictions is that Pella could end up playing SW Iowa teams for at least the first two rounds, but maybe longer. All depends on the matchups and who moves on, but it is a real possibility. Maybe they won't be seeing many of the East Iowa teams till later (if they make it that far).

Please lay out the scenario's that have Pella not playing East teams in the 2nd or Quarter final rounds. I think they meet Washington again this year in one of those rounds if Washington is still in the playoffs.

My crystal ball is broken, but they could play Creston round 1, Harlan round 2 and then DCG in the quarterfinals depending on who wins what match ups around the state. Not saying it is going to happen, but I don't think you can automatically have them going east, although I agree that it is more likely.

If they get paired up with Creston in round one, then, to me, it might make it more likely for them to get Harlan in the second round (assuming they both win), but it also might not. Lots of variables in there.

They could end up going north as well if Gilbert or Ballard makes a deep run, but again, that is a less likely direction for them to go and the rest of the quarterfinals match ups would have to make sense.

Certainly could be another Pella-Washington matchup for their 6th meeting in three years.

If Fairfield beats CCA this Friday, I think it is likely that Creston will play Pella in first round.

Carlisle 49 Osky 21 — The Wildcats will be one of the hardest three seeds in the state. Really crushed Chariton last week.

Pella 56 Chariton 14 — Just learned that the point differential thing only goes up to 13 points, so they are in just as long as Osky and Knoxville both lose.

Norwalk 35 Knoxville 21 — I think the Panthers keep it interesting for a while, but in the end fall short.

Saydel 19 East Marshall 18 — Why not?

Playoff predictions:
1. Pella
2. Norwalk
3. Carlisle
4. Chariton
