Got a week under our belt, so thought I'd throw out some D7 picks for this week. So glad football season is upon us!

Carlisle @ Bondurant-Farrar -- Rough week for the Wildcats in week #1. On the road at B-F who squeaked out a win over North Polk. Should be a good game, will go with the home team; B-F 21 Carlisle 14.

Chariton @ Davis County -- Chariton has a very favorable early season schedule. I think they will put a hurt on DC. Hockenson may get 5 TD's; Chariton 42 DC 14

Knoxville @ Centerville -- K'ville beat Newton with a hook and ladder play that takes the ball inside the 10 yard line with 20 some seconds left. Kick a field goal then at the end to win. Quite a play! Centerville isn't very good. Knoxville should win easily; Hook and ladders 35 Centerville 14

Nevada @ Saydel -- The Eagles with the shutout last week, good for them! Glad to see them beat Clarke. Don't think they will beat Nevada though; Nevada 31 Saydel 14

Norwalk @ Winterset -- Strong week #1 performance by Norwalk. Winterset with a good win over Osky as well. I think Norwalk is going to have a very strong year and this week they won't be derailed; Norwalk 35 Winterset 14

Oskaloosa @ Ottumwa -- Ottumwa has a strong running game and a very good RB. I think Osky will have a hard time stopping them; Ottumwa 28 Osky 14

Pella @ DCG -- This should be a heck of a game. DCG looks to be very strong on both sides of the ball and has the home field advantage. Pella has the athleticism, but not the depth. Will be a hot night. If the game goes 4 quarters, DCG could wear them down. I will pick Pella as they have the winning streak, but should be close; Pella 28 DCG 24

Heard Austin Schulte is out with an ACL tear for the year. If true that makes things more interesting for Pella.

I thought the Knoxville win and the Carlisle lopsided loss were the surprises of week one. I also expect The Norwalk and Winterset game to be a great battle. Winterset has a ton of team speed on defense.

I think Knoxville's program is heading in the right direction. Knoxville has always had good athletes, just had issues getting them to play football, buy into playing as a team, and staying eligible. Last week was a great win for them, although Newton was replacing 21 of 22 starters, so they are very young.

K'ville has a good shot at making the playoffs again though.

Oh, and yes Schulte did tear his ACL so is obviously out for the year. He is a fantastic young man. He will bounce back strong but is a tough way to spend your senior year. Certainly will affect Pella's season.
