Just enjoying some coffee by the fireplace this morning looking at some district standings and it struck me that Gilbert has a very real chance of missing the playoffs. If they don't beat Grinnell in two weeks, they may not get in. That will be a huge game for D6 standings. Losing to B-F last night really hurt them as they now sit 1-2 in the district. D6 is a great district. Top 5 teams can all beat each other on any given night.

The Bondurant/Gilbert game was a great one to watch. Granted, I'm a Bluejay parent. Bondurant's loss to Grinnell on a safety a few weeks back at the end of the game was a tough pill to swallow. We've got Ballard at home this week, with Newton looming.

I believe I heard that Gilbert suffered the loss of their "do-everything" QB/LB? ACL? He has not registered participation evidence on QuikStats the past two weeks. If true, so sad for him personally, but that alone explains much of the struggle. It is not that Gilbert hasn't been competing well, but when a team loses a key guy, especially a two-wayer, prospects change in a hurry. That district also seems to have several very balanced teams.

I do think the Grinnell game is critical for Gilbert to win, but the team with all the pressure this week is BF in their game against Ballard. If Ballard beats the Bluejays, BF will head into Newton wanting/needing to avoid a third loss while Newton will be playing for a chance at the #1 seed and the district title.

Regardless, there are still several head to head matchups among the top 5 teams that will impact the final standings. Other than Newton currently being in the driver seat, I think it's too early to tell how things will shake out. Heck three losses may even be good enough to get in before it's all said and done.

Here are the key remaining district games among the top 5 leaders. Notice Gilbert and Newton have just one game remaining among the leaders while BF, Ballard and Grinnell each have two.

10/10 Ballard @ BF
10/17 Grinnell @ Gilbert
10/17 BF @ Newton
10/24 Ballard @ Grinnell

We have played both teams this year and I give a small edge to Ballard. Stop Peterson and you stop Bondurant.

I agree, I really like Ballard's offensive approach. They run a no-huddle with what I think is a similar scheme to Kansas State. They also have more than one weapon in Erickson and Johnson who are both over 1000 yards in total offense.

Yes, Gescheidler got hurt during the Ballard game, I think. He didn't play against Newton. Before the season even started, Gilbert lost 2 starters to season ending injuries. I'm not an insider or anything, I don't know how good Gilbert could have been this year, it's gotta be tough for the kids and coaches to go through.

I have a Friend. Who live in Bondurant and he think it will be a tough game and he is going to give the edges to Ballard right now. But his dad think that Bondurant will win because Ballard maybe paying a little to much attention to Grant Petersen. That what hurt gilbert they fake a hand up and Bondurant QB started to run and stop short at the line of Scrimmages and throw the ball to a WR that got behind Rhoads and hatfield add it was with the wind. It may depend on who gets the ball first at well He said Bondurant can control the ball and not make stupid errors. He think Bondurant can when. A lot of people do not realize that BF has see that no huddle before CMB use to do it all the time against them and in the 2A playoff last Mediapolis did it to them as well. It depend what Ballard does on D. What kind of a D do they run is it 4-3 or 3-4 or both.
