Creston O-M vs. SC Heelan

creston has improved, but i have doubts they can handle heelan...got to say heelan by 14

This was never a game from the very start. As I was watching this game, I kept thinking how did Creston get this far in the tournament?

Creston won their first 3 games like everyone else. The problem was Creston turned it over 3 consecutive times to start the 2nd half and thats when it got out of hand. It was a 28-7 ballgame at that point and after the 3 TO's it was 49-7. Kind of tough to overcome 3 TO's deep in your territory.

Basically what I expected... based on the past 2 meetings w/ Heelan vs. Creston ... 2012 first round of playoffs, Heelan won 47-20... last year in 2013, 1st round of playoffs again, 45-7... and now last night's semi-final game 59-14. I just hope it's a good title game.. i'm tired of seeing blow-outs, regardless of who wins... Good Luck to both Pella & Heelan! Here is the post game article..

Not to mention, it very easily could have been 28-14 at halftime with Creston/O-M getting the ball back to start the second half. If Creston/O-M doesn't turn the ball over at the end of the half, and instead gets points out of that long drive, all of a sudden it's an entirely different ballgame.

No.No it's not. Creston could not stop Heelan at all. Game was over early.

I'm not a Heelan fan by any stretch of the imagination, but it doesn't matter if it was 28-14 at halftime or if Creston holds on to the ball in the 2nd half... Heelan was a way better football team. Creston didn't have much of an answer for Heelan... think at best you are looking at a slightly smaller blow out with a score before half and a reduction in turnovers.

I think you have the two best teams left in this class. What that means for the title game... I don't know. Both had fairly dominating performances. I think Xavier is far better than Creston, so the point differential isn't a great measure. Hopefully it's a hard fought and close battle either way.

I'm not arguing with you that Creston couldn't stop Heelan. But, if Creston makes it 28-14 before half and gets the ball back, then players aren't pressing as much and play calling changes drastically in the second half. Not saying Creston wins if that happens. Not saying that at all. But it does become a drastically different ballgame than 59-14.

Creston's fan support was very impressive. Too bad the guy at the Casey's had to watch the entire town, but he could watch it on TV. Three and a half hour drive for about three and a half minutes of tie-game football.

Hats off to the Creston/COM community! That's how a community gets out and supports their team!

Creston had to have been doing something right to win 10 games, including beating DC-G, which was ranked in the top 5 (?) before they played. Heelan did play their best overall game of the year, and I'm sure Creston believes they should have played better. Heelan is a young team, and not at the level of their previous 3A state title teams ('08 & '13). But neither are they as vulnerable in the upcoming title game as they were in '07, '10, or '12, when young teams took it on the chin against veteran opponents.

Heelan was a bad matchup for Creston. Creston IMO had the better playmakers but the physicality of the Crusaders was more than the Panthers could overcome.

Now Pella is a beast with speed.
