CR Xavier vs. IC Regina

Xavier, pretty soundly I suspect. Too many weapons.
24-10.

Would love to see this as it is the best game in Iowa this weekend.

It's hard to imagine Regina getting beat soundly by much of anybody. I haven't been able to see either team this year, so I don't really have an educated opinion. I'm pretty sure it will be a great game though! Would be a nice win for Xavier as they lost to Regina last year.

Xavier had Brinkman absolutely shut down for 3+ quarters last year, I mean single-digits rushing shut down. Cook was getting his yards, though, but Xavier was able to tie it up early in the 4th.

Then Brinkman got loose for like a 70+ yard TD run, and Regina got a couple of scores in the 4th quarter (after shutting him down for over 36 minutes, Brinkman had over 100 yards on two consecutive carries).

Xavier is a really balanced team this year, and the defense has been really good again. I think they throw the ball better than last year. The O-line may be not quite as good, but they have a ton of speed. Is that enough to counter Marv Cook's program? I really don't know. I kind of think Xavier might have a little edge this year, but who knows?

Regina 24-15 Both teams have great athletes, depth and coaching is solid.

QB Schulte vs Stenger edge to Stenger on running edge to Schulte on passing.
RB Wilson vs Phillips straight line speed to Wilson foot\directional speed to Phillips.
WR Wash on this.
OL - Wash
DL - Xavier
DB - Regina
K - Regina

Xavier will do a double pass at least once in the game. Regina needs to limit the deep ball, Schulte likes over the top, but not many crossing or middle routes.

Regina likes the screen against pressure and times it well with Phillips. Xavier needs to force the pass but not get burned by screens\wheel route.

There had to be big halftime adjustments for Xavier. Phillips and Stenger were absolutely gashing them in the first half - Phillips had over 200 yards rushing at halftime. Regina's D was playing really smartly and not giving up any big plays after the early TD.

Second half - Xavier managed to put the clamps on Regina's ground game, and the Saints just pounded it, with Maliki Wilson finishing with 32 carries and over 150 yards. I don't know if the Xavier line just wore down the defense or what, but they didn't punt once in the second half (Schulte did throw an interception in the third quarter). The Saints also ran the option quite a bit in the second half, and Regina wasn't able to stop that. Long drives ended in touchdowns - 35-21 at the end of the 3rd, Schulte had option-keeper runs of 16 and 17 yards in the 4th, and it was tied with 3:22 left.

Regina got a good drive going, helped by two big penalties and a couple of nice Stenger passes, to get to the Xavier 21 with around a minute left. Then Stenger went to the air once too often, Blake Whitten intercepted at the goal line and ran it out to the 42. A sideline pass got about 13, then with 10 seconds left a quick fullback dive caught Regina looking for a pass, I think, and the fullback ran for 30 yards to set up the winning kick.

A heck of a game. The stats were almost exactly reversed between halves, as far as rushing yards and first downs go.
