They started off hot, beating three pretty good teams (Clear Creek, Union, and NFV). Since then, they beat Columbus 40-20 and then lost to New Hampton and Mt. Vernon, what's going on? Are they injured or people figuring them out? Mt. Vernon score surprised me...

Keep in mind that their win against NFV took 7 or 8 turnovers from NFV. Minus the TO's, NFV controlled most of that game.

Also, though Union has a lot of wins they have a pillow soft schedule. If they had a schedule like New Hampton they would have at least 3 losses already.

As a Union fan I've been watching CPU's performance and trying to figure out what that means for us. Is CPU really not that good, are they a victim of a very tough district/schedule, was Union's performance against CPU a result of so many inexperience sophomores starting in key roles and have they gotten better since, is D3 even weaker than I already thought, etc.?

Ultimately SOS is huge. According to BCMoore, Union's SOS is ranked 26th to-date. Not necessarily pillow soft, but when you compare that to D3 teams it is definitely softer. CPU's SOS ranks 4th, New Hampton's SOS ranks 16th, NFV's SOS ranks 6th, Beckman's SOS ranks 14th. That is one tough district.

When you look at CPU, they are very one dimensional. I would argue that they started the season strong but haven't really improved (at least to the degree of other teams). There is a blueprint established for a gameplan to shutdown the CPU run game and teams can now more easily follow it. I think if CPU replayed games from earlier this season like NFV and maybe even Union, the outcomes would likely be different.

After looking CPU box scores, I don't know how they would ever beat NFV without the turnovers. In fact it looks like NFV would have blown-out CPU without all the fumbled snaps and muffed punt returns by NFV.

Guys, guys... please be careful to not say anything negative regarding NH, including SOS or something else, or you risk enduring the wrath of Spooner. He's a tad sensitive on such matters.

I'm afraid he may be in for a bit of disappointment when NH faces NFV, imo.

I've got NFV in that game too...

NH by 4 over NFV when the time comes.

With that out of the way, is the legendary Juan Harris going to play this year?

I saw this the other day in ESPN:

IIRC... I thought I read somewhere that NH lost to a 1A school this year. Not sure if true!

That's what Mitch can't seem to figure out. See a previous thread where he thrashed NH for losing to a lowly 1A school. According to Mitch the Genius, only like 2 schools in the state can compete up a class and SW isn't one of them.

Oh, and btw Mitch, I have picked NF to win the district since the districts came out. One of the reasons? They bring so much back from a 1A runner up team last year. Lol

CPU beat Oelwein in what was a good close game until late in the 4th. Final score was 38-20. This high school football fan has no respect for the CPU coaches, as they onside kick up by 18 with less than 2 minutes remaining.

Hey BringIt...take it as a sign of respect! Evidently they felt Oelwein was a threat & couldn't give the ball back to them. Not a bad game....
