WEST DES MOINES, Iowa —
West Des Moines Community Schools announced Thursday that the game between Dowling Catholic and Valley during the quarterfinals Friday is canceled.
WDMCS said that multiple members of the Valley football team had tested positive for COVID-19.
"I am heartbroken for the players, families, coaches and Valley fans, but we are very proud of all the team has accomplished this fall. Overall, we have to do what is safe for both our team and our opponents," said Brad Rose, the Valley athletics and activities director.
Anyone who had pre-purchased tickets for Friday's game can either donate their ticket money to the athletic department or be reimbursed. Those looking to get their money back can get more information here.
The game was to be hosted at the Drake University stadium. Dowling is a seven time state champion. KCCI confirmed that Dowling will advance to the semifinals. Valley's season is over.
The school asks for community members to "do their part" and wear face masks, practice social distancing, stay home when they're sick and wash their hands.
