I really did look into various spots and where they should go. I thought for awhile to just drop them 2 spots to #3 but ultimately dropped to #5. I feel like if they played Centennial 10 times they probably beat them the majority of the time. However I also knew going into the year Cenetnnial had the players returning to beat Dowling. Plus the other teams ahead of them all did their job and won. Feel bad for the #1 seed that draws Dowling first round and any other teams they see in the playoffs because my guess is this will really start a fire for them.

I agree with the rankings, including where Dowling is. That being said, this is the exact reason I have advocated for a modified point system in the past, and in the present. Clearly, in spite of the loss, Dowling is still one of the top two or three teams in the West, and thus, should be at home at least for the first round. Now because they lose one district game (out of such a small sample size as five games), they will not be at home. I still believe all nine games should count, which is why we need a modified point system to account for playing schools of different classes.

That would only work if the state created the schedules. There are too many bad teams out there, it would not be hard to schedule an undefeated non-district. It would also make some of the east-west games we've been seeing less likely. Bettendorf vs. Valley, CF vs Ames, ICW vs SEP all happen because you have nothing to lose with a tough non-district. You also wouldn't get any excitement out of the bottom teams, Waterloo East beating a few teams early may actually help them get the program up and moving.

If it were another school, that might be a bigger deal, but Dowling doesn't seem to have a home game during the playoffs in any season. Even when they are listed as the "home" team for a playoff game, they end up playing over at Williams Stadium.

Don't agree on Dowling dropping to 5th especially since they beat your #2 team by 30 points. And it doesn't really matter with home/away games since the Maroons don't have a home stadium. No real difference for the team.

I think that SEP will head to Urbandale and Dowling will go to Johnston.

Otherwise, you have 2 rematches. Non district rematches but still

That makes more sense. Not sure making sense matters though.
