Updated Follow -up about 2017 Top performers list

I plan on attending part of each 4A game this Friday (logistics allowing) then put something out late next week on my top performers. I will have an opportunity to view stats, I have watched some live events plus hudl ( if updated) and I've chatted with a handful of local assistant coaches (covering most districts and hope I can catch one more Saturday Night).

Some constructive feedback from last years team was that I relied to much on stats. With that in mind, I will/have attempted to get additional input to expand beyond stats and will use best judgement, but at the end of the day stats is what we all can easily view and maybe all I have to go on. I really value coaches opinions however this is a challenge as well but I have heard some comments either direct or through reliable sources. Lastly what other players say about individuals they matched up against is Gold.

This was a lot of fun last year and got some buzz going plus it gives a retired guy something to do with his time! , I am happy to take another shot and hope to publish soon

My one and only request, No one call out any players that make the list... its fine that you suggest others that should have made it and why but keep it fun and professional

Ive done stats for such a longtime, ive seen teams out perform other teams by almost 200yds and still lose by 28-35pts. However stats are interesting

IMO they tell part of a story below are 3 flaws:

1) Are the people keeping the stats being honest with the record keeping. It seems "offense" is somewhat cut and dry however defense is very subjective and could really get flawed.

2) Are all the teams recording the stats following set guidelines that they really understand. I bet at times there are more tackles recorded for a game then plays ran.

3) For stats to be useful you really need to see plays made vs plays played. In baseball they don't post hits without telling you how many at bats. Player A has 6 tackles and played 1/2 the snaps on defense, player B had 7 tackles and played every snap ( 20 more snaps then player A). Strictly stats player B looks better but in reality player A may be far superior.

4) Meaningless stats, big numbers against very poor competition or after the game is decided. Coach "A" pulls his stars and Coach "B" continues to play his to pad stats. I hear this one a lot so I assume some merit.

Just a few opinions/viewpoints that come to mind.

I watched the game last night between Dowling and Johnston, what a game for all us spectators. I'm certain it's heart wrenching for players and parents to be on the losing side in such a big close game.

I want to congratulate Cent. and Dowling for advancing to the dome. Johnston and Lewis Central ( rumor has it played its last 4A game last night) what a great season you both had, hold your heads high men. Remember in the whole state there were only 4 games played and you were in 1 of those 4... you were a final 8 participant.

Watch this upcoming week, you'll see some players named in my All State Central/West from these 4 teams.
Onto the Dome
