I think 3A is wide open, but a lot of circumstances happen in early games. If Pfyfe plays in first two games for Waverly, they'd be near the top instead of nowhere to be found. If Spirit Lake was healthy, they'd be ranked higher. Wahlert beats two of Luke's top ten 4A teams on the road and drops (rightfully so) because of a one point road loss which was caused by missing sixteen shots from outside the three-point line. (A lot of those same players have taken only two similar shots in the next two games (combined) after being strongly "advised" by the coach). When Pella plays at powerful West Des Moines Valley right after Christmas, will they plummet in the ratings when they lose? And if they win, they certainly should be Number 1, I think. Congrats to Harlan and Chariton for being #1 and #2. Two great programs. Rankings are fun, and we should enjoy them as they change over the course of the season. ............And MOC, Algona, Heelan, Atlantic and Spencer are sitting back and licking their chops.

Until someone sees Wahlert lose in the 3A playoffs and Pemsl remains healthy, they are the favorites regardless of if they limp into the playoffs. However, as mentioned above, a loss in 95%+ of the cases will knock a team down.

4 of the ranked 3A teams play 2A #1 Western.
How much do you dock them for a loss?
Depends on situation. If Western lost by a point in OT, that may be in the 5% case. Depends on the game in all honesty.

No offense to Prairie but they just lost to Linn-Mar 91-54. It is a game I think the entire board outside of the Prairie community expected Wahlert to win.

I'm more curious in whether you drop one of the 3A teams for a close loss to Western? BCMoore would have Western as #2 in 3A

They also only beat Mt. Pleasant by two points. Not saying Mt. Pleasant is a bad team, but probably just barely inside the top 20-25 3A teams. Prairie would not be a top team in 3A. Wahlert deserves the drop for losing that game, but of course they'll still be the favorites. This was the same situation as last year. You can't just never drop Wahlert and Xavier because they are playing 4A teams (and in a lot of states, would be 4A teams themselves since they are private).

And it doesn't matter that Wahlert missed 16 three-pointers. Why should that play effect? A loss is a loss.
