Iowa Preps takes an inside look at the week that was on the Class 4A
basketball court and talks about what teams excelled, what individual players
dominated, and what to watch this week as well. Subscribe today and never miss
a thing!
Ranking the Contenders
The #1 Contender
Waverly-Shell Rock
Background: Taking down the defending champions from
Wahlert will be a challenge but the Go Hawks have a strong history of success at
state and the dominant players to get the job done. Guard Jake Velky can
put up points on anyone and having a Division I bigman with Austin Phyfe inside
helps their chances. Consistency is why this group took the #1 spot here.
The Next Five
Cedar Rapids Xavier
Dallas Center-Grimes
Davenport Assumption
Dubuque Wahlert
Spirit Lake
Background: Wahlert
still has the highest ceiling of all of the teams in Class 3A. Xavier
picked up a big victory over the weekend in knocking off Dowling Catholic and
Assumption also has the luxury of playing in a Class 4A conference.
Five Others
Fort Madison
LeMars
MOC-Floyd Valley
Pella
Williamsburg
Background: Fort Madison may be peaking at the right time.
This senior laden group is healthy and will be dangerous in the playoffs.
A sleeper to watch out for
Denison-Schleswig
Background:
Size and guard play have a lot to do with the winning ways of this club.
