Class 2A MVP

I would say Josh Mackey of North Fayette Valley. This guy was a horse in the backfield for the Tigerhawks, and led the team in tackles.

Depends on who's voting but I would think Carter Isley's offensive stats would win out more times than not.

All the more reason not to let stats tell the tale. Carter is a great player, but he only played one way, in 2A football a rarity for a great football player. So I would have a tough time giving him the MVP. I wonder why he only played offense....

I would say it was because he was such a big part of the offense. Looking at his tackles for loss v. tackles to me that suggests he's a high impact defender that only plays when necessary. That many carries takes a toll. I'm guessing he led the state in combined tackles plus times tackled.

When you read articles in the papers commenting on player achievements it is common to see a players offensive stats reported on a defensive player but rare to see the opposite. That is exactly why my original comment opened with, "Depending on who's voting".

I agree it does depend on who's voting. My idea of an MVP would be based on the term 'valuable'. That would seem to mean a player who provides value in as many ways as possible, thus a true two way player would have a big advantage in my mind.

For example, NFV's Mackey has just as many combined tackles plus times tackled as Isley this year. This is not counting the countless blocks a LB takes on as well which is just as physically demanding as getting tackled or tackling someone. That's my opinion, but of course I could be wrong.

My top Canidates would be:

1. Josh Mackey (NFV)
2. Christian Rozeboom (Sioux Center)
3. Carter Isley (Albia)
4. Derrick Kuehner (NFV)
5. Derek Lieurance (Cascade)
6. Steven Holloway (Mediapolis)
7. Tyler Hirsch (Beckman)
8. Mitchell Stahl (WIlliamsburg)
9. Chandler Diercks (Clear Lake)
10. Tucker Tenge (New Hampton)

you'll get gawdy stats playing bad teams. He would have average numbers in the northern part of the state.

It's interesting that you have Holloway from Mediapolis at #6. Somehow he is listed as 2nd team All State which is ridiculous. He was the difference maker in all of Mediapolis games and almost single handedly won several games. I agree he should be in this conversation and he definitely should have been 1st team defense.

And body from the state champion deserves it more than anybody else. And as to Holloway his Mediapolis team couldn't win their home play off game against Mt. Vernon.

I Agree, the champions had less people than the teams they've crushed all season

Well Roger that's because it takes a team to win a team game. Holloway was a difference maker in that game as well, but he couldn't do it all.

22 carries for 87 yards vs. a bad defense like Mt. Vernon? "Difference maker"? That's funny.....

Blocked a punt, blocked an extra point, several sacks, over 20 tackles...shut up navy. Defense is where he stands out and changes the game

Changed the game so much that his team lost by 2 scores against Mt. Vernon? That's hilarious man. I really have no idea how he is even mentioned in this 2A MVP thread. Hell, he's not even the MVP of a 1st round playoff game against a team like Mt. Vernon.

Keep em coming ORSKY, this is the funniest stuff I have read in a long time.....

Seems as if Mt. Vernon offence and defence was better that night and they were a #3 seed. I do know that Cascade kicked WB/ND butt. But I don't

think we were favorites to win like Mepo. And with all those gaudy stats I am sure he would given all for a win.

Orsky you might want to check your stats he had nowhere near 20 tackles. And i would take Isaiah Trousil over him at LB any day. Check the stats he is only a sophomore and he either matched or outplayed him.

Well Orsky to hear you extolling the talents of Holloway I find it hard to believe that he couldn't do it all. He does have ability to play no doubt bout that.

I do believe that if you want to even be mentioned in this conversation, you must have at least one playoff win..

I definitely think it comes down to Mackey and Rozeboom. As cliche as that might be (two best players from the two best teams), I got to see both of them play 3-4 times this year and walked away feeling like those were the two best players I saw all year in 2A. I think if you're trying to objectively pick one of those two, you might as well flip a coin. The one who gets the ring will usually be the one people pick, but Rozeboom is equally deserving, IMO.
