Settle down now. Early in the year you can only go off of what has been played and they lost so you have to drop them. Jesup lost to number 3 in 2a Dike by 3 and dropped 4 spot. Plenty of time to prove they are higher.

I don't think these are meaningless. Luke is very knowledgeable and respectable person, so I think his rankings are certainly worth something.

That being said, not a fan of punishing teams who actually play good teams and lose, rather than teams who get inflated wins (cough cough Iowa Star).

That being said I think what Jhawk said is correct, and things will work themselves out.

Don't get your panties in a knot fellas! There's another thread called BcMoore Rankings you can go to and toot your horn! At the end of the day, rankings mean as much as what you ate last night, sooner or later the inevitable will happen!

Jesup appears to be missing a starter or two still, so whenever healthy they'll be fine, probably the only reason for such a drop in these "meaningless" rankings. As for the Iowa Star comment, as said above, Colo lost to a 3A team by 5. You'd assume a 3A school would beat the breaks off a small 1A school, especially if they play in the Iowa Star, right? Either way, both losses by Jesup and Colo looked liked good games from the scores. Best of luck to all teams and hope for nothing but a good and injury free season!

And if they don't, will you be mad at them too?

Completely agree with you. I'd rather be a team that 15-7 down the stretch, and making a run to the Well rather than a 22-0 team getting knocked out in the first round! Something I wish Meskwaki could/would do in the near future by possibly making a move to another conference(no idea how that works). CN and Meskwaki only face each other twice, and only get to face Janesville once each year. Other than that in the IS it's tough to get a solid game consistently!

My goodness you sound mad. They are rankings done for entertainment. I put a lot of time into these but know that I will not please everyone after doing them for 10+ years.

I LOVE the fact that they went up and played a 3A team tough. It will pay dividends in the long run. However, as I just posted in the 3A forum, a loss is a loss and in 95%+ of the cases, teams get knocked down from it.

As for the real Iowa rankings, which ones you are referring to? INA? I think we can all safely assume the reason that I don't vote on INA rankings is because I knocked CN down after a loss to a 3A school. Sounds about right. It would have nothing to do that INA stands for Iowa Newspaper Association. If you haven't figured it out, this does not appear to be a newspaper.

I wish the INA voters would make their polls public so you can irrationally scream at them for a weekly rankings that is to honor the best teams and provide entertainment value.

Just wanted to say also thanks for the nice words in here. Outside of giving teams pub and us something to talk about, the rankings are meaningless. This isn't the BCS title game that will determine things. No one has a clue how IAHSAA does playoff district draws so rankings likely don't factor in.

I've seen Gladbrook Reinbeck play once and Colo Nesco play twice. The Rebels really showed their toughness and ability to comeback yet again beating AGWSR. I've seen the Royals play two teams they ran out of the building. It will be interesting to see what happens tonight between GR and Janesville. Also Colo Nesco opens the second half against Meskwaki which will be a huge game.

Maybe a bit of an overreaction. Not a fan of the 3a to 1a thing since things are much more equal, and teams play in conferences like this all the time. However Gilbert is a pretty good team, and Colo is impressive. I guess I'm just a bit biased after I star had a tough postseason last year.

I was just putting it into perspective, as the Iowa Star is looked down upon, which is reasonable after a tough post season. Meskwaki ran into a solid Jesup squad last year, Janesville played the post season without their best player and lost a close one, and Colo Nesco just couldn't make a shot. Completely understand your bias, and it's all good! Just hoping this time around these three teams can make an impact in the post season! Meskwaki and Colo play as soon as break is done on the 5th in Tama, and should be a good game. Janesville and GR are actually playing tonight! Hopefully there are updates!

Guthrie Center plays in a heavily 2A conference which benefits them greatly when they play all 1A at playoff time....thus a few years back when they went to state an got third....
