that was a great game. Bett threw a lot more than expected and Abbott had a good game. Great throw and catch to get them to close at 35-32 late....... I thought Bey-Buie was really a non-factor based on what he’d done previously. He definitely earned it in the red zone.

.....but full of a ton of mistakes on both sides. Each had a roughing the punter, pass interference, false starts all over the place, offsides...and so on. Bett’s coach lamented the mistakes costing them the game, but that doesn’t tell the story.

The 60-minute lightning delay tamped down the atmosphere for Bettendorf. CF came out ready and Bettendorf didn’t. CF’s D-line adjusted and the defense made enough plays to win.

They both still have a lot of season ahead to get better.

Much like last year’s game between these two teams, both were epic back-and-forth slugfests. I think between the CF defense being smaller than last year, and lacking a Jack Campbell in the middle of the field, it’s allowing teams to better sustain long drives. That was evident last night with Bettendorf running numerous 80+ yard scoring drives, and really wearing down the CF defense. Had the lightning delay not occurred, I had a feeling they were going to get worn down by the 4th quarter. But the delay helped them get their second wind.

I think when your playing steam like Bettendorf, don't go after the punt Block, CF really needed that offensive possession to keep the defense off the field.

I also think CF may be in trouble if they cannot find a solution at running back.

What I do like about CF vs the Pat Mitchell teams of past, is the offensive play calling. They are passing on any down and take more chances on 4th down.

The defense is good, but hey really need to press the wide receivers. With the LBs at Safety/CB size they should provide some support. Basically we have 7 players at DB size on the field at once.

Any word on Sawyer Jacobson? He dinged a knee in the 3rd quarter last night if I recall.

I've seen C.F. Go for the block to many times and get called for the penalty, when you are playing a excellent team just stay away from the punter.

It probably comes from the success they have had with blocks over the past two seasons. Punts, PATs, and FGs. They’re aggressive

I would agree CF benefited from the weather delay, for whatever reason. I don’t think their RB’s were the issue, perhaps the run defense deserves some credit. If Bett plans on making a serious post season run, they better figure out pass defense.

Ostrich and Loecher had solid games Running. I guess maybe Bettendorf was dedicated to stopping the run and force Cedar Falls to beat them passing. However Cedar Falls just reloaded with 3wrs and a Tight End

The poor DBs were beaten badly on each of those long passes and TDs. A huge difference in speed on the outside. I thought Bettendorf did ok on rush defense but couldn’t stop them late in the 4th to get the ball back. CF’s D-line had a better night than Bett’s D-line for the most part. Loecher had all day to throw. Many of Bryne’s throws were athletic throws under pressure. CF’s defense has given up a number of long sustained drives this year. They’ll get that worked out.
