CF certainly has a solid defense. Without question, it has been well ahead of the offense at this point. But the offense really hasn't clicked yet. Some of it is from replacing two of the greatest offensive lineman they've ever had in Ross Pierschbacher and Gabe Clark from the left side of the line, and the combined 7 years of varsity experience they had. They also haven't gotten any of their running backs into any kind of groove yet, as the run game is off to an uncharacteristically slow start. Hard to fathom, but the passing game has actually been slightly ahead of the running game to this point, which is pretty unusual by CF standards. The trend the last several years has been kindof a QB by committee for the first half or more of the season, and it has been again this year with senior Trey Hansen and junior Taylen Alexander. IMHO, I think Alexander has looked a little more consistent, and has a little higher completion percentage, although I don't have their stats in front of me for the moment to back that up. Both QB's have been starting to establish a little more of a solid connection with two of their receivers, 6'5" 225 TE Tyler Schmidt, and 6'6" 173 WR Tra'von Fagan, and the inherent mismatches they provide with their size. Also, this coming week will be the first week that Waterloo East transfer Javon Middleton will be eligible to play. So expect him to add another dimension to the passing game. Penalties in particular have also really plagued this offense. In the Mason City game, CF had 14 penalties for 110 yards. At this point of the season, with all the laundry CF is drawing, it has to be a point of concern.
