CF longtime head football coach is retiring after 47 years. Announcement just made on KWWL...Sounds like he has health issues that's really draining him of energy. He will continue to act as a consultant for CF as long as he can going forward. co-head coach Brad Remmert will assume full time head coaching duties as of today. Pat Mitchell ends his head coaching career ranked 4th all time in the state of Iowa in wins (344-138-1), and more 4A wins than any other head coach in Iowa history (likely soon to be eclipsed by Jerry Pezzetti in 2 to 4 years who has 320 4A wins), 5 state championship appearances, and 1 state championship.

Cedar Falls football coach Pat Mitchell retiring

The end of an era. From all I hear about Coach Mitchell, he is a class act. Tiger football has been at its best under his leadership. He's been a co-coach for a few years, so his "consulting" role should not impede Cedar Falls' success down the line.

Best wishes to Coach Mitchell. 47 years is a heckuva a grind. Congratulations to him and the Cedar Falls community for their results and methods across the years.

I met him once.

It was a Friday night at Peppers...rather late Friday night...after a CF game.

A buddy and I were sitting at the bar and he walks in with, what we assumed were, assistant coaches.

He sits next to us, we had no idea who he was, and offers to buy us our next round and spent the next hour or so just talking with us like we were a couple of his former players and had known him for years.

Most everyone in CF seemed to like him.

Hell of a run for him and CF.

47 years coaching and only a handful of sub .500 seasons. Hard to imagine Cedar Falls TIger football without him. It's true that everybody from CF loves the guy. Everybody and their mom and brother played for him or had him as a coach or teacher.
