By classes - who do you think were the best football teams in the state over the last 10 years? Make your case here.

4A- Valley
3A- Heelan
2A- Solon (CL-GLR for team still in 2A)
1A- Regina
A- Wapsie
8- Lenox

This pretty well hits the nail on the head. 4A and 3A are the only ones that are even remotely up for discussion, IMO. The other four classes are no-brainers.

Gotta look at championships won over the past decade (2013-2003):

4A - Valley (4 ships), Dowling (3)

3A - Harlan (4), Heelan (3)

2A - Solon (3), Regina (2)

1A - St. Albert (4), Regina (2)

A - SLCL (2), Wapsie (2)

8 - Armstrong-Ringstead (2), Lenox (1 with 4 runner-ups)

Interestingly, every 4A champion over the past decade has also gone undefeated in the regular season.

This doesn't seem correct. Regina has won 3 1A Championships in that time frame. 2005, 2012 & 2013.
Also, Regina beat the 3A Champion Solon Spartans in 2010 on their way to a 2A title that year. Regina with 5 Championships in the last 9 seasons over 2 classes. And, they should have a good chance to do it again this season.

Here's how I can't to mine

4A- Valley and Dowling both could claim this honor but ultimately Valley has one more title and I think they beat some stronger teams in their title years.

3A- Yes Harlan has one more title, but I think that they've been a little stronger overall, and had teams that destroyed some really good teams.

2A- I think if Solon as a 3A school now but what they did before they left 2A was amazing, and they had a couple of runner ups in that time too.

1A- St. Albert is close and there are a couple of teams who have been good, but no body has been close to Regina these last couple of seasons.

A- Wapsie beats out a couple of teams like Southern Cal, North Tama, and Madrid very consistent program

8 man- It seems like Lenox is always at the dome, and with smaller schools that's impressive, Armstrong-Ringstead had a good run also.

8 man- Armstrong-Ringsted: 2007- Runner Up; 2008- Runner Up; 2009- State Champs; 2010- State Champs; 2011- Semi Final appearance. 2012- Combined and left 8man.

If we are talking about best team for a single season then the 2013 West Lyon team gets my vote for best in class A.

How about the Top 5 1A teams in the last 10 years?

Regina (even though they were 2A at one point)
CBSA
Dike-NH
WB
???

Top 5 by class

4A- Valley, Dowling, Bettendorf, Ankeny, Xavier

3A- Heelan, Harlan, Decorah, Clear Lake, Pell a

2A- Solon, Spirit Lake, CL-GLR, North Fayette, Sigourney Kota

1A- Regina, St. Albert, Emmetsburg,West Lyon, DNH

A- Wapsie, Southern Cal, North Tama, Madrid, Newman

8- Lenox, Armstrong Ringstead, Newell Fonda, Adair Casey, Remsen St. Mary's

WB has been in the semifinals 5x in the last 10 years.

Pretty sure they should be in the top 5 argument, PNation.

Agreed their in the discussion, but no title games, and I struggle to replace one of these teams with them. St. Ansgar is up there as well.

Best program in the last 10 years-

4A: West Des Moines, Valley (3 state titles, 1 runner-up)

3A: Sioux City Bishop Heelan (2 state titles, 3 runners-up)...close second is Harlan (3 state titles, 4 if you include 2003)

2A: Solon (3 state titles, 1 runner-up...also a title in 3A)...agree with Central Lyon/George-Little Rock for teams still in 2A (1 title, 2 runners-up)

1A: Council Bluffs St. Albert (4 state titles, 2 runners-up)...Iowa City, Regina a very close second (3 state titles, 1 runner-up....could include Regina's two 2A titles, but I decided to stick with what was won in-class...though if you want to make the argument they deserve it by adding those two 2A titles as well, that's reasonable....besides just re-visit this topic next year after Regina's 5th consecutive title anyways, amirite?)

A: Wapsie Valley, Fairbank (2 state titles, 1 runner-up)....Madrid a considerable second (6 semifinal appearances, 1 runner-up...Wapsie Valley was only other team to make 4 semies)

8-man: Armstrong-Ringstead (2 state titles, 2 runners-up, 1 semifinal appearance)...Lenox a close second (1 state title, 3 runners-up, 1 semifinal appearance)
