How does everyone see this Confrence going again this year? I honestly think the top 3 teams in the Confrence will be Murray, Grandview Park Baptist and Ankeny Christian. Murray returns everyone of there 5 starters from a team a year ago that went 17-6.

I'll admit, I don't know much about the others, but Grandview Christian should be really good again. My son plays fall league with a few of them (he doesn't go there, just a fall league thing). They'll have good size, shooting, athleticism and aggressiveness. Both of the Glenn brothers are really good, Montes is a load inside (he outplayed Cade McKnight from Grinnell the first weekend despite foul trouble). Plus they have Augustine Saliu, I don't know if he's new or didn't play last year. We played them and I don't remember him on the floor at all. Anyway, he's 6'8-6'9 and athletic.

Oh, and almost forgot, they add Mach Nyaw, who I think played for Storm Lake last year. He adds some more ball handling, shooting and athleticism.

Even losing Burt and Seyler, I could see them being better than last year.

I'm hearing the same things about Grand View Christian, that they will be loaded and have a really good team again. They will be more athletic than last year (with the younger Glenn) and have added some more inside presence (Augustine mentioned above). I heard they more than held their own playing against several larger schools at tournaments this fall.

I'm not saying they'll win it all, but a deep run at state would not be out of the possibility. They made it to state last year -- played their worst game of the year losing to the state champs.

I agree they could be better last year even with losing Noah Burt and Seyler, given the type of players they're bringing in.

They've beaten Grinnell, Ankeny Christian and Des Moines Christian.

Are Grandview's new players eligible right away? It would seem they would need to sit out until January. They will definitely have great guard play returning....

Murray has a lot of talent coming back....size....

I'm not sure when they came in, but, if they didn't play any varsity last year, they'd be eligible immediately. That I also don't know.

Murray has a lot of size coming back. Bryce Keller is 6'4 Senior and Thane Simmons is a 6'7 Senior. They also return 4 of they top 5 scorers from a year ago including there huge play maker Kenny Boles! I wouldn't sleep on Murray this year. I have a feeling this year there gonna be very good. Just really hoping they can finally get to the state tournament as this year may be the last chance for them in a long time.

Could be wrong, but I believe the Grand View players would be eligible right away -- at least Augustine would. Last year, the starting PG DeMaulenare (spelling?) wasn't eligible until the 2nd semester.

From the posts above, it sounds like Murray has some good size and skill returning. I get what you're saying about hoping they can finally make it to state, as those types of years don't come around very often. I hope they have a good year and wish them well. Given the large number of schools in 1A, it's a tremendous success just to make it there.

Does anyone know what Ankeny Christian has coming back?

Outside of the Bluegrass, what about Colo-Nesco and Montezuma? I know Colo graduated the forward who was really, really impressive -- can't recall his name right now. Sat by some college scouts that were checking him out.

Ankeny Christian lost there star player Bradley Fisher last year do to graduation. He was a huge player for them at 6'6 and averaging 20 points a game. They lose 3 of there top 5 scorers from a year ago by what I'm seeing on Quikstats. The two top scorers returning from last year are Griffen Laib who averaged just over 11 points a game and Clay Ramseyer who averaged almost 8 points a game a year ago. Size is something I think there gonna lack as they only have really one big guy coming back who is Caleb Grizzle who will be a sophomore and 6'5 but only averaged 3 points a game last year. If I had to guess Ankeny Christian will probably be pretty down this year unless they've got some different players coming in. They look to be a young group.

Colo loses, I think, 5 of their top 7 scorers. Reischauer was their leading scorer at almost 17 per game, but they 3 of their 4 double digit scorers, including Stoeffer, who was right behind Reischauer at 16 per game.

That said, Colo is always at least decent and even if they're down, they'll be a tough out for most of their opponents.

Did they change the rule? I thought anyone transferring after 10th or 11th grades would have to sit out 90 days. Incoming fresh can play right away. If a player was to transfer right after spring break of the previous year, they would have the 90 days in before first games. I have seen this happen in several cases. This is why those out recruiting players to transfer goes on a lot for those players in 8th grade and summer after. I know of a former 14U AAU team that was made up of several Des Moines players that at the end of the AAU season were trying to decide whether to go to Hoover or Roosevelt together. They ended up splitting and playing each other in the coming year. I didn't know that whether playing varsity at the old school even mattered...

Yeah, I was doing some digging and it looks like you were right. The wording is little odd as they keep mentioning varsity competition, but never really explain it fully. So I assume that means that if you transfer, play football at the JV level (regardless of whether you should be at the JV level or not) you are then eligible for varsity action in any sport after 90 days? So if you don't play a fall sport, does your 90 days start when winter sports begin?

That would seem really easy to skirt around. Transfer, go out for a sport you wouldn't play anyway and play it at a lower level, then play the sport you wanted at a varsity level and never go out for the other sport again. It looks like the only people to be hurt would be fall athletes, ie a football player transferring would miss varsity time in football. And yes, I realize a large % of athletes play multiple sports, but most have one they consider their best or favorite sport. My daughter wouldn't be bothered if she missed basketball, but would be crushed if she had to sit out XC or track. Her best friend would be the opposite, she would go out for XC purely to use that as her 90 days.

The way I understand it unless it has changed you do not even have to go out for a sport it's just 90 school days as I do not believe summer counts as days, I have seen athletes transfer into a school at the start of the 4th quarter and have 45 days in then sit the 1st quarter of the new school year which then equals there 90 days and then be eligible for basketball or what-ever winter sport they are in.
