I don't think many people outside of Fort Dodge expected the Gaels to make a game of it against Madrid.
Van Meter most likely will be ranked next week. In fact, they were ranked prior to their loss to Madrid were they not?
To be honest, after watching their game last week I really felt good about SE's chances against Madrid. It was because of the way their offense was progressing week to week and the similar style that Madrid plays.
Madrid is an explosive team but in a much different way than SCC. Their line is also about the same size as SCC's and just as physical, if not more so, but SE is obviously much better suited preparing to stop a power running team than teaching an inexperienced group how to defend the spread in a matter of days.
The Gaels are doing the best they can at playing assignment football and executing their schemes despite clearly being undersized compared to almost every opponent they've faced thus far this year and they continue to improve in all areas each week.
It's been a tremendous job by the coaching staff thus far and a testament to the players for sticking with it and not hanging their heads when they were taking their licks. And Logan Fear delivered his breakthrough performance with 2 TDs and 2 big fumble recoveries.
Now hopefully the Gaels can continue to build on this and finish the regular season strong!
