BHRV vs. Union - Championship Game

What's the status of the BHRV kid that got hauled off on a stretcher? I saw him get tackled/how he landed. Did not look good. Broken leg I presume?

Watching the game online and going back it seemed that his ankle was pointing a way it was not supposed to. Medical personal seemed to handle it very well from what it looked like, hopefully he will be ok though.

BHRV was much better than I anticipated. Although they handled Dike NH, I still think Union should win this game.

Prediction: Union 42, BHRV 14.

I don't think BHRV will be able to move the ball consistently. The west bracket is also significantly weaker than the east.

broken bone in his leg he disloacted his ankle but once they cut his shoe off it popped right back into place.

For a prediction I dont really like doing scores so im gonna pick up a straight up winner in BHRV It will be a close game but theres no way Union wins 42-14. not enough depth to keep up with the pace BHRV plays at.

I too am going to pick Union, but see a much closer game. BHRV looks very balanced and has some good playmakers. Two strong offenses against two strong defenses. Even if competition on the West side is weaker this year, the way they dominated Dike certainly should help prove something. I see something closer like a 31-28 type of game, with Union coming out on top.

Just checked BCMoore - that shows BHRV as the favorite. I'm assuming the inflated SOS from the West side is a factor there (beyond BHRV already being a solid team).

11/18/2016 2A 3 (11- 1)
LaPorte City Union 2A 1 (11- 1) Boyden-Hull-R Valley - 14.04 (86%)

Picks all over the board from "Union 42, BHRV 14" to "close game" to "BHRV [will win] quite easily". This may end up being one of the better title games. It looks like 1A and 3A will be blow-outs while 8-man, A, and 4A could be closer but still clearer favorites.

I personally just can't see how either team would run away with this game...

I don't think 1A will be a blow out, it was a 7 point game last year, and WC returns more, but I will still take Regina.

As for this game, there is a lot of toss up, most games you can pick a favorite, I don't see that with this game, because there is really nothing to compare the teams. No common opponents, both won easily in the semis, really the picks are all based upon who their favorite team is an whether that is Union or BHRV or some team that lost to one of those teams. Personally the only advantage I see is that Union has about a 20 minute trip and BHRV has about a 4 hour trip. So I'll take Union in a close one 34-32.

I will ask one thing, has there ever been a town as small as Hull have two teams in the title game in football, I am guessing no, but I was wondering if there was another situation were a small town parochial and public schools both made it the same year.

Too bad no one in Hull or Rock Valley will be able to watch the game on-line!
Weather forecast is not looking good & lots of folks who just can't get a workday off.
Talked to a grandparent that had recent surgery & will miss first game ever & won't be able to see this one

Nice job IAHSAA!

if you have dish or direct you can. but yes I agree what a terrible decision by the IAHSAA and IHSSN to do by signing with comcast sports out of chicago.WTF

Well majority of the people in the "bigger" cities have Dish or DirectTV so they are able to see these games. With their old agreement with mediacom ALOT of people didn't get the games. I think it was 2-3 years ago we couldn't get them here with DirectTV, but my parents were able to with mediacom. Now the rolls are reverse. Plus isn't IPTV mainly used for the IGHSAU??

Actually talked to an old high school friend who watched the semi-finals last weekend from Arizona. Said they had it on at their bar and there were people watching them. So Iowa is getting some exposure by this.

What TV carrier doesn't carry comcast out of Chicago?

Out of state can get the feed.
IHSSN is blocking everyone in-state from watching if they don't have Dish/Comcast.

Cable providers in the western 2/3 of the state.

Well go to a bar, most places have Dish or Direct TV with Comcast.

I don't know what to tell you. I have looked on Facebook and people are posting from all over the US screenshots of the IAHSAA football playoffs. Pretty cool that its getting national coverage. I watched the other night a playoff game out in California and tonight there are playoffs games all over the country that I will be able to watch (after the 4A game).

Tough break, I would hope those people would look into Dish/Direct TV to get the games then. Does Mediacom carry Comcast sports? I can't remember if they do or not. I know a couple of years ago they did, but wondered if they changed it.

Obviously the best solution is one where anybody in the state can watch the games and those outside the state can see the game the way they can this year. It is great for the state and great for the players to get the extra attention. There will be talent playing today that may end up getting offers from schools because they went largely unnoticed before but are getting attention now. It's great for these players, but certainly those in the state should be able to easily watch.

I agree it sucks, but there are options out there for people. Cable TV in Iowa has gone downhill and is not a good option. They seem to be taking away channels and having costs go up. But the same can be said about Direct TV or Dish.

I thought the Iowa High School had a "free link" to the webcast? Can't people watch it on their computers?

If I were these people I would be calling anyone I know that had Dish or Direct TV and going to their house to watch.

This isn't true at all. Just click the "in state viewer" link and sign using your cable info. Been doing it with mediacom no problem.

Is that because you live in eastern Iowa, where Mediacom offers CSN Chicago instead of a Fox regional sports channel?

Forgive my ignorance here, as I'm not a follower of 2A. Why is Union High called Union High when it's in La Porte City? There's a BCL-UW (Union Whitten) in the smaller classes and a Union county in SW Iowa. Just curious how Union High came to be. Thanks in advance.

BH-RV playing well, though getting some favorable bounces with all the fumbles.

Dysart and Geneseo combined in 1966 to form Dysart-Geneseo. D-G combined with LaPorte City in 1993 to form Union.

Get ready for the bitching to increase. Wrestling and boys basketball are also on the same platform. So we will have the same story for those sports too. I've also seen that the contract is for 3 years also, but not sure of that factoid tho.

CSN Chicago is trying to parlay this into higher distribution in Iowa I'm sure. Don't blame them, but it sucks for high school sports fans in much of Iowa. Of course, you can always get Directv like I have, and it is not a problem. Picture looks great in HD. The picture in previous years on KCWI-23 was just horrid.

This. If people want to watch they are going to have to change their provider. The old picture on 23 was horrible and a lot of time you couldn't even read the score.

This new deal is great like I said, people out of state can watch. People in state have to be smart and upgrade to Dish or Direct.

All we are asking is that they unblock the livefeed to anyone without TV access.

Dish doesn't do well in NW Iowa because we have a great cable/internet provider. Fiber optic & faster than most big cities.
Changing to an inferior system just to get a couple of <boys> HS games is terrible advice.

Anyone out of Iowa can watch on-line. We just want Iowans to have the same option.

Well looks like everything you said was ultimitely false, we controlled every aspect of the game. 500 yards total offense 29 first downs 12 of 17 on third downs? if anything it looks like the eastern side of the state was weaker. I knew all along Unions big boys wouldnt have been able to go the whole game with our pace. But the ultimate shoutout goes out to Heath Swanson as he held the top 2 rushers in 2A to one of each running backs lowest YPG in the season. That man shouldve won Assistant Coach of the year.

I actually thought the same thing in regard to the RBs that were limited by BHRV, and both with different styles. TJ from Dike was a big and physical back while Vaughan from Union was very fast. While BHRV got punched in the mouth early in both games, they made great adjustments to minimize production/scoring after that.

BHRV was the one team from the West that people had ranked high from the start of the season and rightly so. I wouldn't say I look at the West any differently because of the performance of one team that everybody already thought was one of the best in the state. The exciting thing for BHRV has to be so many quality players returning and their chance to repeat.

The biggest problem will be the interior lineman for next year, as all starts on the interior line on both sides were seniors and not many juniors played besides end of games when BHRV was up by 28+. as for the skills they are gonna have another special group as the JV i believe went undefeated this year. So yes there is a chance we could repeat next year.

One thing that stood out is when both teams lined up for the national anthem, BHRV stretched from sideline to sideline; Union was about half that far. Both schools look similar in terms of enrollment numbers. Did BHRV dress underclassman (certainly didn't look so based on size), are the Junior/Senior classes rather large, etc.?

we dress everything from Sophs to Seniors. we have about 6 freshman who will be on the sideline but that is for waterboys and ballboy purposes only. i was very surprised by Uninos numbers. only 36 kids? youd think there is more with the success theyve had.

BHRV is in the top 5 for biggest 2A teams in the state. Huge advantage when you have numbers to choose from and the style of ball they like to play. Union stuck with them but just wore down as the game went on. I couldn't believe how fast BHRV gets in their plays and the ball snapped. Great game by BHRV and the Union running back is really really good.

I read that BHRV is expected to repeat? Do they have a lot of returning starters coming back?
