Best in D3

It's a hot mess of quality teams.

New Hampton is in the driver's seat at 4-0, but faces tough match-ups with Beckman and NFV. I'm starting to sway to think New Hampton beats Beckman and plan on them losing to NFV to finish 5-1 in the district.

NFV has a chance to win the district by beating New Hampton next week, which I think is likely. They would finish 5-1 and hold a tiebreaker with a head-to-head win over New Hampton.

Beckman has already lost to NFV and I have swayed to have them lose to Beckman this week, so they will likely finish 4-2.

CPU may very well be upset by Waukon this weekend and has a tough draw next weekend, so they will likely finish 4-2 or 3-3.

Waukon needs to win out and get help, which is possible to claim the #4 spot.

With all the above said, here is my prediction for D3:
#1 - NFV (5-1, tiebreaker over NH)
#2 - New Hampton (5-1, lose tiebreaker to NFV)
#3 - Beckman (4-2 by themselves)
#4 - CPU or Waukon - leaning towards Waukon based on the way CPU has played lately. (CPU would be 4-2 losing the tiebreaker to Beckman, or Waukon would be 3-3 if they beat CPU and control that tiebreaker).

I think UFF meant he has swayed for Beckman to lose to New Hampton Friday. I would pretty much agree with his final rankings. Would have been fun to see a healthy McDonald playing QB & safety for New Hampton against NFV next week. Would have been a great matchup! NFV has not been real impressive with the passing game and one dimensional on offense. But they should win the district followed by New Hampton and Beckman. CPU's early win against NFV gives them the inside track on Waukon for the final playoff spot. Interesting that in the BCMoore rankings CPU compares favorably to either Anamosa or Cascade from D-4 which will likely be the D-4 champion. D-3 is tough! Ronan was a big loss for Waukon, and they have an uphill battle for playoffs, but would love to get a shot at postseason play.

This district will come down to what everyone thought it would at the beginning of the year. NFV and NH in the last week. My guess is that NH will stack the box against NFV and make em throw it. From what I've seen that is the recipe to defeat them. But it's not as easy it would seem, as I'm sure that NFV is used to seeing that game plan pretty much every week. I still favor NFV in the game, but if NH can get enough stops and force a few turnovers, (which NFV seems to do more this year than in the past), then I would certainly give NH a very good chance in the game.

With that said, if NH proves incapable of stopping the run, then I could see a NFV easy win. In my opinion, it will come down to NH being able to match NFV line play, which it would seem that no team has been able to do that this year.

Having watched both teams play this year, I'll give the nod to NFV. They are a more physical team, and will dominate the line of scrimmage. NH will need to create a few turnovers to win that game. Both are very good teams.

PS. I wouldn't be shocked to see Beckman beat NH this week. My guess is it will be a very close game......either way.

Don't write off CPU just yet. They had 3 senior starters go down and miss time (including their stud Running Back). They are healthy now. Don't overlook who CPU has beaten a 1 loss Class 3A Clear Creek Amana, a 1 Loss North Fayette Team, and blew out a 1 loss Union Team. Everyone has a let down week and that could be the case with their loss to Mt. Vernon. I am not saying they will make the playoffs but don't overlook them. They have been overlooked from the start and their start was pretty impressive.

The stars would have to align perfectly for CPU to win the district, even then I'm not quite sure it is possible.

IF NFV wins out,
AND IF New Hampton beats Beckman (losing to NFV)
AND IF CPU wins out
THEN there would be a three way tie at 5-1 on top of D3.

NFV would have beaten New Hampton but lost to CPU
New Hampton would have beaten CPU but lost to NFV
CPU would have beaten NFV but lost to New Hampton

Tiebreaker goes to points, which I don't see CPU winning.

If CPU makes it into the playoffs as the 4 seed (looking like the most likely scenario), they will have a tough draw in the first round of the playoffs.

True.... But all I am saying is don't count them out.
Beckmann beats New Hampton tonight (small chance but possible)
North Fayette Valley beats New Hampton next week
CPU wins out
Two way tie for 1st which goes to CPU Head to head

Very cool to see so many ways this district can play out over the last two weeks. Very strong district.

Given this weeks' results, could the continuous clock be employed when NFV plays NH?

Spooner better have a litany of excuses prepared if that happens.,, And I bet he already does. Injuries, wind was blowing in the wrong direction, Injuries, SW beat em up and their psyche was damaged, oh, and did I mention... Injuries.

This NH team is missing something, I believe mainly it is confidence, there fairly healthy other than McDonald which we knew he was out. I would be very surprised if they beat NFV or even kept it close. Although there D is playing well, the O is totally opposite. This team had something change after playing and losing to SW. I'm not sure what exactly, but there is no cohesiveness with this team.

If I am right, there are multiple ways this district could end.
Week 9 matchups: North Fayette Valley v. New Hampton, CPU v. Beckman

If NFV wins and Beckman wins, it is a two way tie between them. NFV wins district with head to head tiebreaker. Standings would be: 1. NFV 2. Beckman 3. NH 4. CPU

If NFV wins and CPU wins, CPU takes district title with head to head over NFV. Standings would be: 1. CPU 2. NFV 3. Beckman 4. NH

If NH wins and CPU wins, NH takes the title with tiebreaker over CPU. Standings would be: 1. NH 2. CPU 3. NFV 4. Beckman

If both NH and Beckman win, then Beckman takes the title with tiebreaker over NH. Standings would be: 1. Beckman 2. NH 3. CPU 4. NFV

So many different scenarios, were any team could end up anywhere from 1st to 4th in the district. Should be fun to watch this district play out in the very last week of regular season play!
