Best guess at 4A Round of 16 Pods

only problem I would have with this would be either put Dowling in Iowa city west pod and move someone into ankeny pod from ICW pod or Swap Waukee and Dowling in the pleasant valley pod. I don’t like ankeny and Dowling in same pod. If you put Dowling with Iowa city pod you would keep the 4 top Des Moines schools separate (sep, Ankeny, Dowling, Waukee). But I doubt we will get exactly what we want.

I had Ankeny as the 4 seed and Dowling as the 5 seed (behind the 3 undefeated teams), so that's why they ended up in the same pod. Also I thought the state might want to keep one pod with all "east" teams for geography and so that at least one east team gets to the dome.

Kind of a radical idea here, but I think it would be interesting in 4A if they seeded 1 through 8 as (home teams) then they let #1 choose who they wanted to play, then #2, and so on. You would give a few teams some bulletin board material that they were chosen as a weak team, but I think it would be a reward for the teams that we view as the best.

yeah I’m pretty sure that would be unprecedented in any state. I would think coaches would HATE picking their opponent from a PR standpoint. They would the have to spend the whole week telling the newspapers and radio what a quality opponent they picked but from some scheme/match up stand point it just made sense to have to pick them lol

I get it. We will have to see how much they emphasize geography to limit travel versus quality and when using quality are they using straight record or injecting some common sense into it. Let’s face it, I imagine all 4 of the top DSM teams probably beat pleasant valley if I were a betting man. Who knows how good or not good IC west is with so few games and nothing toward Des Moines on the record. I mean after this week they will be 5-0 with 3 of those against Iowa city teams (liberty and city high twice). I know they don’t want to punish teams missing games this year but they also shouldn’t reward them like a top 4 seed either.

who knows, if there are 7-8 DSM area teams maybe they put them all in 2 pods and only let 2 go to the dome and 2 east siders will get to slide in and likely get handled at the dome. Let’s hope not.

As an East-sider I agree, if it requires some quarterfinal travel, so be it. The top four belong at the Dome...period.
