I've noticed there are some freshman playing key roles, not only at small schools, but at some bigger schools as well, I was wondering who you guys thought was the best?

The Davidson kid from Poky may not be the best Freshman in the state, but he sure isn't playing like one either. Has the confidence on the offensive end of a seasoned upperclassmen.

Obviously Iowa City West's Patrick McCaffery has to be high up there for a freshman. His stats might not show it with several D-I athletes ahead of him in the lineup.

Dubuque Senior starts two freshmen among their mostly underclassman-dominated lineup- Nick Timmerman and Noah Carter.

Heelan has a nice looking frosh point guard who will be taking over for the explosive DeAndre Burnside next year. East High has a very good shooting frosh guard that is seeing a lot of action.
Heelan is young , they may have a frosh and three sophomores on the floor at one time.

One freshman to watch is Des Moines North's Tyreke Locure. He's scoring double digits on team that might surprise some people.

I haven't seen him, but somebody whose opinion I trust said to watch the Vanderloo kid from Sioux City East. Not even sure if he is starting yet. But my friend said he is a name to watch for the next couple years.

QuikStats has him as the 3rd leading scorer for East as of now.

Patrick McCaffery.....there's no other freshman in the entire state even close to him....I've seen all the ones mentioned above....Patrick will be the best player to come out of Iowa since Marcus Paige...and he may be even better than Marcus when he's done.

Will Fran still be at Iowa in 3 or 4 years? Pat may not come out of Iowa....

Fran will probably be like Kirk Ferentz and stay until they are out of school. Family guys hate to move their kids from school to school.

Saw him play vs Heelan. Very good offensive player for a frosh.

What ? Seemed little frail and slow when I watched him. We were all wondering if his name wasn't McCaffery , would he even be on the varsity at IC West. You are dreaming about the Marcus Paige comment LMAO. Nice Iowa high school player, dad coaches the Hawks big break there, plays for a superb high school program. End of story.

Who would hire Fran anyway? What is a better job than Iowa?
There is nothing better than coaching at Iowa ! especially the career contracts they get. Heck if Alford wasn't such a jerk , he would still be there. Ferentz has a nice season every 6-7 years but gets a lifetime contract because he keeps his mouth closed. Smart man, anywhere else 6-6 over and over gets you canned.

Not real close, maybe cousins or not related at all, but not positive. Nick's Dad Kevin was a good athlete and mother is a Potts (good genes there). The Wahlert Timmermans (6-5 Peter is one of the best sophs in the state, and the other, 6-5 John, 5/6 man on the varsity) are Bart's boys. Bart was a very good player for Wahlert 20- 25 years ago.

I have seen a handle full of freshman this year. Patrick McCaffery is the best I've seen and it isn't close. He is ahead of his older brother on the height and skills at this stage. Someone said he looks a little frail... How many freshman do you see at his height come in with muscle tone?

I haven't seen North Scott freshman yet, but I have heard they have probably the best group in the MAC. Haven't seen Bettendorf either. Davenport Central has a freshman that I can tell is going to be a star for them, but he has some skill development needed still.

Dylan Peters from Assumption is going to be a star in the MAC. He is a 6'3 or wing and plays a lot like Jared Uthoff. He is the cousin of Billy Daniel who led Assumption to multiple basketball Titles.

Pleasant Valley has a few decent freshman, but after this senior group is gone that program will have very little depth and not much for post play. One of the "freshman" had a full grown man beard though... May need some birth certificate verification. Saw one of those last season when a Dubuque Senior freshman looked Amish.

Davenport North has a solid group of freshman as well. Between the freshman and sophomores they have a good future ahead of them. Sophomores beat up on CR Jefferson before the break to the tune of 77-33 and they were only up 16 or so at half and had that lead at 40 or so going into the 4th.

Really?.....obviously you haven't seen Patrick play against the top competition in the country....keep him in mind in 3 years and then we can talk....and I said "may be" better than Marcus, not that he would be...but he has 3 long years and he's 6'7" now....may be 6'8" or 6'9" whens he's done growing.
