It really depends on what you're looking for in a QB. Nothing against Steinbronn, but I'd take Peppers over everyone else in a heartbeat. He doesn't throw as proficiently, but he's not asked to, either. He's is the kind of player who can almost single-handedly take over a game, not unlike Jake Hogan was for Don Bosco. I don't know if there's another QB in the state you can really say that about.

West Central will be a very good test for Turkey Valley. Can they pass the test. Pass defense will certainly be tested by Steinbronn and company. Should be a good one in Maynard Friday night.

Agreed. I believe that the first two losses for West Central were flukes. This team is for real. I think they will give Turkey Valley one heck of a game on Friday.

I would have to agree with what jen44 said. I also think if they are able to get Decker back on the field at linebacker that will make a huge impact. Here is my 2 cents worth, Steinbronn's passing game will be too much for Wilkerson and the Trojans and Decker will be flying around on defense. West Central 63 Turkey Valley 49

No, I think he just said he would prefer Peppers over him.
This. Peppers is better at things that I think are more important in 8-man. Steinbronn is a good passer, but (at least to this point), WC hasn't shown any kind of running game. When's the last time a team won a championship in 8-man without a dominant ground attack? Peppers gives that to Exira, which is why I would take him before anyone else under center right now (and that's not even taking into account his ability on defense, which isn't pertinent to this particular discussion).

Agreed. West Central is a definite dark-horse in the district. I do believe that Turkey Valley in the best team in 8 man, but that doesn't mean they will walk through this West Central team without a challenge.

Peppers has 657 rushing yards to Steinbronn 64. But Steinbronn is better right??

Passing yards
Steinbronn 819 Peppers 326

Yards per attempt
Peppers 11.6 Steinbronn 9.4

Yards per completion
Peppers 29.6 Steinbronn 17.4

Passing touchdowns
Peppers 6 Steinbronn 6

Total touchdowns
Peppers 16 Steinbronn 7

Yards per carry
Peppers 10.9 Steinbronn 3.2

In 8-Man football the QB has to do more than pass the ball and let the receivers do the work.

Name a single 8-man team that's even reached the Dome without having at least a good (if not great) ground game? Look at last year's rushing stats. The top two quarterbacks? Jake Hogan (who led the state with over 2500 yards) and Peppers, who finished fourth in the state in rushing. Then look at the passing stats. The top two passers failed to reach the quarterfinals, and one of them didn't make the playoffs at all.

You can't pass your way to a championship in 8-man. You have to be able to run the ball, and your quarterback is often a big part of that. So I'm taking Peppers over Steinbronn without hesitation.

They can pass all day as long as the run game is there, and it is! you have 4 downs to get 10 yards and when all their backs are averaging over 3 yards a carry 4x3=12 which is a first down so they obviously have the run game needed so why not air out the ball

I would have to agree that Peppers is probably the more ideal 8-player QB than Steinbronn. They are both good at what they do but in totally different ways. 8-player is a different breed of football than what any of the other classes or even college. 8 polayer you MUST have a ground game that will either balance out the passing attack or be able to lean on it when yards are needed. Good teams find ways to beat throw-it-around-the-park teams fairly easy. I think someone mentioned the fact that their hasn't been a team who has played in the finals or even won it with a more pass heavy system. Probably the closest thing was Murray a few years ago but they also ran for a pile of yards or MMC but they are in the same boat with the ground game being what they leaned on to get the passing game going.

What I want to know is if Jen44 and all the pro West Central supporters will back down off all the claims of WC having a great team when we all see the result of the game with TV tonight. Will they stop posting their ridiculous non-sense when TV wins by 40 points or more? I think they should. You guys are starting to sound like gmgwolverone05 on the class A board. It is hard to match his fanaticism but you guys are close. There is supporters and then there are the parents/fans like you guys who just make bold uninformed claims. Looking at Quikstats doesn't qualify as actually knowing something about football. Good luck tonight in Maynard, you will most definitely need it. Score prediction: TV 54, WC 12

LOL isn't west central 1-2. But your the greatest, come on. Luck and fluke have nothing to do with it, its hard work and preperation. And they other team is just better. Go Central Warriors.

And as for the Peppers/Steinbronn dispute I dont care what class you are in the last time I checked the QBs main job was to throw the ball so in that case I have to stick with Steinbronn as my best QB.
If you really think the typical 8-man quarterback's job is to throw the ball, then you really haven't been paying much attention to 8-man. Averaging 3 yards per carry is awful, especially in 8-man, where teams routinely average at least twice that. That's not a good enough running game...not even close. Again, look at the top passing teams in 8-man. The top 15 teams in passing yards are a combined 18-27. The top 15 rushing teams are a combined 38-7.

*Drops mic*

The job of the QB is to lead his team not be able to sling a ball around the park and only sling it around. 8 man cannot be compared to the NFL or even 11 man football period. Its like comparing apples and oranges. You can't compare them so quit trying to make references to the NFL or any other league of football other than 8 player. If you want to compare the most important stat compare wins and losses and right now its pretty clear what Pepper's has done with that team comapred to what Steinbronn has done with his. 3-0 vs 1-2.

Jen44, let's be real. These are high school quarterbacks we're talking about not the NFL. To compare them to each other isn't even relevant. This is 8-man football and as other people have said above, passing all the time gets you know where. Rockford was 6th in the state last year with over 3000 yards passing and that got them a mere 3-6 record. West Central is not even close to as efficient as they even were and to call there first two losses flukes is just plain stupid. And to say that Steinbronn is a better QB than Peppers is laughable. Steinbronn has thrown more passes to the other team than he has thrown to his own team in the end zone. He's thrown 7 interceptions to only 6 touchdowns. That in no way, is a good QB.

This thread is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. There is no comparrison here at all and this is just turning into a bunch of people acting like JH girls arguing over a guy they have a crush on.

Teams that lean heavily on the pass are rarely among the best in the state in 8-man. Ergo, I'll take the guy who is basically like an extra running back in 8-man. Steinbronn might be a better passer, but the ability to pass is a lot less important at this level. If you really want to argue that point, then you really don't know jack about how this game is played. It's not the NFL, hell, it's not even 11-man (although Class A is very similar to 8-man in terms of the philosophies instilled by the top teams).

The QB's main job is to get the ball in the endzone, any way possible. If you think anything else you are wrong, it is the whole purpose of the game. Not to mention Steinbronn doesn't even get more yards/attempt or completion. He just gets 3x as many attempts. Don't forget that when E-EHK is winning by as much as they do the back-ups get to play, unlike the case for West Central where playing behind leads to even more passing trying to catch up. TD's > passing yards.

i think that Ethan Steinbronn is the best 8 man QB in the state of iowa. but With weapons like Joe Wolfe and James Neiman he should be the best

In no way is Ethan Steinbronn even the best QB in that district, is all he does is chucks the ball up. Saying Joe Wolfe and James Neiman are weapons is also the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why is West Central 1-3 if they have some of the best players in the state? Have they all been fluke losses?

West central was up on TV 22-20 at the end of the first half even with another TD called back.. 3 big injuries killed WC early in the 3rd. After that they lost all confidence and let down, basically playing their second team. And why compare the two QBs cause first off, this is Steinbronn second year of football and 1st at QB. And he is 6'10 260.. why do you expect him to run the ball as well as peppers.. Steinbronn has multiple D1 basketball offers and is getting a ton of D2 football interest I heard. I don't think he's too worried about it. They are both excellent players

Tyson Decker, their best defensive player dislocated his shoulder and needs surgery. Matt langel, the safety and wide out and Steinbronn sprained his ankle on the last play of the 1st half

I think they meant passing alone maybe?? I don't care, I want TOUCHDOWNS from my QB that end up in W's no matter how they're achieved!!

They definitely meant the best passer, but I don't think that makes one the best 8-man QB.
