Any word on teams that may go up or down in class for the next cycle (2023-24)?
Any BED's numbers that would put teams on the bubble?
Any teams changing from 11-man to 8-man or vice versa?
Any word on is the IHSAA is going to eliminate Class A (like was discussed last year)?
Any schools talking about sharing football or dissolving a current sharing agreement?

I believe the cut-offs for the current cycle were something like this:
8-man (120 and under) *although there is a waiver that some teams get that are over 120*
A (120-169)
1A (170-215)
2A (217-319)
3A (320-422)
4A (423-939)
5A (940+)

I know that North Tama will be under the cutoff they actually have been for a while, but I am not sure BCLUW will be, if you go off of last years numbers (I know kids move in and out) they would be at 129.

Regina definitely dropped enrollment and will be in class A . Westbranch seems to be above the bubble for 1A. GC looks to be the bubble team either biggest class A or smallest class 1A. Hinton and Hudson 1A. L-B and HMS class A. BCLUW is playing 8 man in JH but HS looks to stay 11 man for another round. Mount Ayr/Diagonal was the largest class A but it looks like they move up as well

This is from Quinn Douglas (Sports/Ops Director at KQWC out of Webster City). He listed all of the BEDS and predicted the following.

Class 5A
"Only change is that CR Washington moves back in, Urbandale is out of Iowa’s biggest class for the first time since 1983"

Class 4A
Urbandale drops in, North Polk and ADM move in from 3A, as Winterset, Glenwood and Decorah drop down.

Class 3A
Decorah, Glenwood and Winterset drop in, Dubuque Wahlert bumps up from 2A, Keokuk moves up to 4A as West Burlington/Notre Dame drops to 2A.

Class 2A
WB-ND drops down from 3A, move ins from 1A are Van Meter, Eagle Grove and Carroll Kuemper.
Jesup, Pocahontas Area and E-B-F all drop to 1A.

Class 1A

Jesup, Poky and E-B-F ⬇️ 2A.
Van Meter, Eagle Grove and Kuemper ⬆️ 2A
Hinton, Ogden, Grundy Center, Colfax-Mingo, Mount Ayr and Missouri Valley ⬆️ 1A
AC/GC, Panorama, South Hamilton, Postville, Central Springs, Regina and West Monona go down ⬇️ A

HootOwlHollow- I believe those are last years numbers that are used for this year's classification of sports. I could be wrong, but I think the new BEDs numbers (for the 2022-23 school year) that will be used for the 2023-24 football season classification haven't been released yet.

Help me out, am I correct or incorrect?

Yes, those are old. New ones haven’t been released. Believe they were just turned in in October.

Yes, and using the old BEDS might give a very rough estimate but there can be a lot of change from one year to the next so you might as well wait!! Does anyone know when they will release the new BEDS? I assume sometime in the winter??

I use last years BEDs numbers but use the grades from which the enrollment will be pulled, which is slightly more accurate.

Could be wrong but I believe it was January or later last time. But that may have been a slower process with Covid.

I'm interested to see how the 5A schedule tiers pan out. With the success model, your record dictates how tough your schedule is. On the east side Bettendorf will be down at least 1 tier, they will dominate and roll into the the playoffs with a pretty good record. I'd assume ICW will have a much easier schedule next year as well. Davenport West may get a much tougher schedule, which, is too bad. They had a great year and it takes a while to get a program off the ground like that.

Honest question as to how NF consistently is above the A threshold but has been 8 man the whole time? I am ignorant to the rules in place for that if anyone could enlighten me?

So there is a rule that if a school goes above the number once by a small margin then they are allowed to stay in 8 man. I know that Rockford was over by like 30 kids a few years ago and was force to move to 11 man for like 2 years. But if they are above it for 2 cycles in a row then they are supposed to move back to 11 man. Now Newell Fonda and a few others, Iowa Valley and Northwood Kennsett come to mind as others, but haven't been forced back up.

Personally I wish for the 8 man and whether or not a school can play it they just looked at boys enrollment (I understand that girls can play football, but for the most part they don't). Because I know of at least 3 schools that have had situations where they have a class that only had 5-10 boys total in the class and 30+ girls.

I don’t think it hurts that their head coach is one of the higher ups in the football coaches association as they have found some loopholes to stay 8 man.

8-man (120 and under) *although there is a waiver that some teams get that are over 120*
A (120-169)
1A (170-215)
2A (217-319)
3A (320-422)
4A (423-939)
5A (940+)
Just remember it starts from the top down 5A down thru 1 A then once the number of teams in those classes are complete the rest of the teams playing 11 man will be class A, it could be 56 or it could be more or less depending on teams moving classes then anyone 120 and under has the option on 8 man but again some teams that are in the 8 man numbers will continue to play 11 man.

I know that North Tama will be under the cutoff they actually have been for a while, but I am not sure BCLUW will be, if you go off of last years numbers (I know kids move in and out) they would be at 129.
I’ve heard schools like Alburnett will go up as they have a lot of open enrollment kids coming that have came in. I think Grundy Center also goes up from what I hear.

I heard North Tama will be staying 11 Man too much football tradition to change. But I did hear Belle Plain was in serious talks of 8 man.
I agree with North Tama and tradition. I wonder what Coach McDermott's opinion is on the subject, his opinion would be very respected in that community.

glad to see adm go to 4a, they will be very good next year, most of team back...i expect them to go to the dome next year in 4a

Also 0 chance that Whiting goes to CAM Anita 1:45 hours away to play football. They have been sharing with Siouxland Christian.

hahaha I pulled those sharing agreements off the iahsaa website. They need to clean that up that's like the third one that was wrong.

In regards to BCLUW, yes….they are running 8-man football in JH, but zero plans to move off 11 man at the high school level. This is especially the case after a successful year.

The low numbers are product of rotating head coaches at the high school level over the past 10 years. A few were pretty bad, but have a good staff now. Just need to continue getting the younger kids out and interested.

Realistically, they have been a Cross Country school for the past 15+ years.
