The rankings, both official and unofficial, are touting Regina and Pella Christian. That is to be expected and probably deserved. West Lyon and Western Christian seem to be next in the pecking order. I have seen comments that Regina’s line may be as good (or better) than ever. Comments on Kacmarynski and Jungling highlight a dangerous combination. The rankings seem to be dropping a team like West Branch after one loss. I have no doubt that Regina has once again established a great line and found good players to replace other good players. However, why isn’t West Branch getting similar respect? They pounded a ranked Jesup team. They have tradition. They have a good line (and big) also. I can’t name all starters but Tisinger around 250, Barnhart around 270, Dietz 240, Bloem around 250. Someone correct me if I am wrong on the line. Seems like size-wise they can match up against Regina. Luke Lenoch has established himself as one of the best running backs in 1-A. So where’s the love? I think we can throw West Branch in the topic of discussion of Regina, Pella Christian, West Lyon, and Western Christian. Perhaps some others too, I just hear these 4 teams mentioned the most on this forum.

West Branch was harshly penalized for a loss to a West Burlington team that is currently 3-0, their tradition and size alone should have them up higher. There used to be a couple of staunch WB supporters on here, one posted a scathing post about a former Bear star and kind of faded away and is missed on this board, WBFollower has been on here quite a bit but hasn't been around for a couple of weeks. Cyard has some Bear love in him but he is kind of soft in his posts. The Sigourney-Regina game should be a good one as Sigourney plays the spinner back offense which is always fun to watch. Should be interesting to see if the Regal linebackers have the discipline to defend the trickery. Probably should be the game of the week this week.

Cid: day job getting in the way. I fear the Bears are walking a fine line again. 1 back carrying the ball 39 times scares me a bit. A few years back Cade Jones carried it a lot & got dinged up vs the Regals, yet we kept giving him the ball. We need to develop more "system" players like your Regals. Lenoch is a great back & he may be able to carry the load. I would like to see others get the ball & succeed so he will be rested come playoff time. Our #2 QB stepped in an did an outstanding job.
don't know what happened WBFollow - He might be gathering the facts on the question you asked.

I can't picture you as one who works that hard at your day job :) I remember Cade, great back, great wrestler. Lenoch is a stud, I would give him the ball a bunch, not sure if 39 is the number I would go with. I have long contended that when you figure out a play works well and you are up a little to run some other things so when another team stops that play you have more to fall back on. But I am no coach so what do I know. I don't think the question I asked will ever get answered.

I agree that 39 carries is a bit much. But Luke would probably tell you he can handle it. He's a great kid. Cade was a great player and wrestler. You are right about that part.

Nick Phillips would have told you he could handle it too...

I had forgotten that. I think Luke can handle the load but it is a little concerning. Are there underclassmen that could use some carries to get ready for next year?

that is exactly what I want to see from the Bears. Get some carries for underclassmen after building a lead. Ultimately it will keep Luke healthier & build some confidence for next year.

Butch is more interested in records than building depth.

You're on to something here. I never thought you and I would agree on anything. I've always held the notion that Coach Pedersen was more worried about records than winning or teaching life lessons.

said no West Branch FB player ever.

Why do I need to respond? This board is dying quickly. It is nowhere near what it was a year ago. I used to visit 5x a day. Now, if I average 3x a week that's probably pushing it.

Cid: heard the Regal faithful were a little on edge vs the Savage-Cobra-Chi @ 29-28 middle of the 3rd. How good was Avery Moore? Quik Stats has him with 375 all purpose yards.
my worries are manifested Lenoch finished with 285 yards on 40 carries on Friday. Hope we can keep him healthy.

It was way closer than it needed to be, Moore was the real deal, if you give up leverage to a fast guy he is going to score. Need to clean some things up if they expect to move forward. 40 carries? Is that the 'new look'?

'said no West Branch FB player ever.' You would know better than I would but I have heard it from some former players and former coach. I am not saying that Butch doesn't teach life lessons or worry about winning, he does and he is very good at it. That being said 40 carries in a game that wasn't real close isn't something I would sign up for all the time. Sorry you think the board is dying. Suggestions to improve it?

SK was impressive. As mentioned in another thread, I haven't seen the rest of this district play but I would be surprised if anyone else beat SK. Avery is a stud.

Avery was great. But, S-K scored all their points on long plays.
Bad angle on the corner for the first TD. A 4th and 1 that broke through the sell out at the line of scrimmage. A fake punt. And a broken coverage on a long pass.
No sustained drive scored.

Regina was trying to get it done without their starting RB. They decided they needed him in the 2nd half and he ran over S-K for 177 yards with a broken hand leading the Regals to a 22 point victory.

Agreed they were big plays. Also agree that they looked stoppable but Moore broke tackles and once he did he was gone. Wilson from Xavier did the same thing. Erase these mistakes and yes Regina dominated. However, between Xavier and SK, this must be concerning for Regina. They still appear to be the team to beat in 1A at the moment. Others appear ready to contend and will no doubt give Regina their best shot.

from what I read - Volstead was the difference maker running the ball in the 2nd half.

Cid in your travels - is there any "good way" to get to Bellevue?

Many different paths to follow, have gotten 'lost' have made it an international trip, even had to deliver a softball jersey once, just in time to beat a storm.
