Almost Week Zero

Just thought I'd try to get some 8-man discussion going. Some recent news in northwest Iowa is that Lauren's Marathon won't be competing this year in District 2. The state notified all the teams in District 2 that they could pick up a week zero game if they wanted. Haven't heard for sure who did or not. Also in District 2 it looks like this may be the last year in 8 man for both MMC and Remsen- Union since it looks like a whole-grade sharing agreement will happen.

It looks like district 5 lost a team as well. It may have been Grand View Christian (can someone confirm this?). That district is week zero eligible as well. Are districts 2 and 5 too far apart to play each other or did some games happen between them?

From what I have heard, but not confirmed, the District 2 teams that so choose to play week zero are picking up games with District 1.

Grand View will not be fielding a team this year. Their kids will play with Ankeny Centennial I believe.

Losses in 8-man for 2015:
Dist 2 - Laurens-Marathon (cancelled season)
Dist 3 - CAL (sharing with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows)
Dist 5 - Grand View Christian (sharing with Ankeny Christian Academy)
Dist 7 - Northeast Hamilton (dissolved)

Addition:
Charter Oak-Ute playing 6 games as an independent -- mostly against NEH's opponents

Schedules are posted on the IHSAA site. You can sort by district:

Why wouldn't R-U and MMC not do the sharing? In the Economics of today and the future that will probably be the beginning of the end of both districts! Do you have any info on Remsen St. Marys? I would think eventully they would go with Gehlen.

The MMC/RU sharing proposals have been hotly debated in the communities for a couple years now. The main point of contention has been which district would receive the high school. The first round of voting it didn't pass but recently both boards have now voted to move forward for the '16/'17 school year with the high school in Marcus and middle school in Remsen. There still is some planning and public hearings that have to happen but it looks like a done deal. As far as St Mary's is concerned it doesn't look like there will be any near future changes.
