The battles between Grundy Center, Saint Ansgar and West Hancock should be interesting. For Gladbrook Reinbeck there looks to be a few of good teams in BGM, Hudson and Colfax Mingo.

What does GR, BGM, Hudson, and Colfax have coming back?

im not sure what BGM is bringing back. Hudson also competed against some great teams last year in 1A and held their own.

District 5 is interesting G-R, BGM, Colfax Mingo and Hudson were they 4 best teams last year, but they lose almost everything, Belle Plaine was ok and return some pieces, GMG and North Tama were bad but return quite a bit, and Grandview Christian is an unknown. If I had to guess I would say that it comes down to Belle Plaine, BGM, and G-R for the two spots. BGM and G-R because they have two of the most consistent programs over the last decade, and Belle Plaine because of what I said earlier.

Overall my guesses for the playoffs are as followed

Champs
Akron Westfield
Garrigan
St. Ansgar
Lisbon
Belle Plaine
Pekin
St. Albert

Runners Up
West Sioux
MMCRU (very weak after Garrigan)
Grundy Center
North Linn
G-R
Montezuma
Earlham

Wildcard
West Hancock (top 10 team)
Lynnville Sully

Obviously the wild card is hard to pick but those are the two best teams left over.

In district 5- Colfax loses almost everyone. BGM loses a lot, but always seem to find a way to reload. Belle Plaine always has good athletes, I think they will be decent. North Tama and GMG have struggled in recent years. GR and Hudson seem to have good programs historically, so I assume they will be in the mix.
In district 6- Montezuma, Pekin and Lynnville-Sully will be good. All 3 return good players and their starting QB's. Probably a shame that one of them may not make the playoffs. I think Winfield loses almost everyone, and the rest of the teams have struggled recently. L-S beat Montezuma, Pekin and Winfield last year, but that may not mean much. I think the matchups between L-S, Montezuma and Pekin will be very competitive.

This is what I don't like about the way the wild card is set up the third place team out of districts 3 and 6 will probably be a top 10 quality team, but might not get in because there could be a 3 way tie in a weaker district. I really wish they would have said the 7 district champs are automatic qualifiers and there are 9 at large teams and try and get the best 16 in the state, I know that there would be some subjective opinions used but I think it would be better.

District 3 looks like the toughest district overall with the most teams that have potential to do serious damage should they qualify for playoffs.

Speaking of Gladbrook-Reinbeck....since they are listed, can we assume the talk on them splitting up no longer in the books?

There may be a vote but it will not pass. Reinbeck makes 2/3 of the district and they won't vote to split the district.

I think you are a little off on District 4, althou Lisbon will be good don't count out Wapsie Valley and East Buchanan for the champion as both return a lot. East Buc returns its whole line and a 1000 yd rusher, Wapsie returns all its skill players and has two extremely tough non district games one being probably top ranked Denver in 1a. North Linn will be up there but lost top 3 receivers that made the offense click but do return QB. These 4 teams i think you can throw in a hat and i think home field will be huge when they match up.

We should know how good GR will be early in the year. First two games they host Grundy Center and play at Dike New Hartford. Seems like they have dominated Grundy Center but this year Grundy Center looks like they could have a better team.

Another glorious football season is on the near horizon. Like always, Iron Doc is supremely confident that the Fearsome Eagle Beasts will be fearsome once again.

I am far enough removed, being 457 years old, from the building that it would be tough for me to be more specific. Hopefully some of the Beast Nation faithful could elaborate on our prospects.

I'm picking west Hancock and grundy center to make it out. I've been hearing really good things lately about west hancock. Should be a fun year
