This has been a horribly boring game to this point. A lot of great athletes on the floor, but no "great" basketball players from what I've seen. Stewart has gotten his shots, but he hasn't knocked may of them down. Seales hasn't been all that impressive to me either. I guess I was just expecting more out of these two…not a really great effort out of anyone like we saw in the 3A game from Wahlert's kid.

You were watching the two best defensive teams in the entire tournament. The fact that nobody among North Scott's guards or PV's inside guys got 20 tonight is proof of that. Sealers and Stewart combined for 43 against the undefeated 3-time defending champs on Friday.

PV's style of play is the reason the game was boring. MAC fans are quite familiar with the Spartans 45 second average possession time. They have run a deliberate ten to 20 pass half court offense for years. This was to be expected. Go back in the history books and you will see that the previous time they played in the 4A title game they also failed to score 30 pts in a low scoring game with Des Moines Hoover. Eventual Iowa DB Brett Greenwood was a senior guard on that team.
The 2 previous times these conference foes hooked up this year were similarly low scoring games. "Boring" is not a reflection on talent. Granted, there were no high flyers on the floor. I'd guess both teams combined for less than 5 dunks all season, but there were 3 legitimate D1 players (Seales, Stewart, Carius) and one D2 (Milam).

Milam is only a Sophomore at 6'8-6'9 240-250 I wouldn't classify him as only a D2 player at this point. If he keeps growing and continues to round out his game he could very easily see someone like UI-Chicago, UI-Loyola, Bradley, Drake, UNI, UW-Milwaukee, SIU, WIU, or Ill State come calling.

I happen to like defense and thought the 4A title game was pretty good. There was an awful lot of talent on the floor. I absolutely got the impression this year that the top teams in 4A and 3A put a lot of emphasis on defense. The scores were universally low. Yeah, if you love run and gun basketball, you would have been very disappointed in this year's tourney. I think the caliber of teams was somewhat higher than usual and this probably led a lot of coaches to figure if they had a chance to win it would be with lock-down defense. I know as a fact that in 3A Tom English of Wahlert spent most of the tourney practices on defense. That can make the offense look rusty.
