Colo-Nesco @ #2 Newell-Fonda

Colo-Nesco has had a nice post season run so far and has proven that they are solid football team. However I think Newell-Fonda presents them a team they have not seen this year with their size and physical play. Wise and company are on a mission to repeat and I think their style of play and home field gives them a sizeable advantage in this one.

#3 Don Bosco, Gilbertville @ #6 Central, Elkader

This is the game of the night in 8 man football. Two very good teams unfortunately having to play each other before the dome but that’s the way it will play out. Both teams have not had much trouble at all this year with anyone so it will be interesting to see how each team handles a close game as I think this will be a close one. Ehrhardt and Roth give Central, Elkader a good all-round offensive attack but I think Bagby, Mangrich and Don Bosco’s depth and defense will be the advantage in this one late into the 4th quarter.

#14 East Mills @ #4 Glidden-Ralston

There may not be a team hotter than East Mills right now and some are comparing them to the Newell-Fonda team of last year. Hopkins has been an absolute load on offense and the defense has forced an impressive 11 turnovers. Glidden-Ralston has shown in the playoffs that they are the real deal after some questioned them with their weaker schedule. Brown has been a workhorse for the Wildcats and he may be running behind one of the best lines in 8 man. Glidden-Ralston seems to have a little better passing game with Christian and I think their line on both sides of the ball are the advantage here.

West Bend-Mallard @ #1 Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn

West Bend-Mallard got another big win against a good Janesville but could it have come at a cost? Injuries have hurt them this year and they will need everyone healthy for this one. They have MMC all they could handle in week 9. However I think MMC learned from week 9 and Specht and company really come to play in this one as they would like another chance in the dome and state title. MMC’s size and run game are the advantages here.

It's stupid how the state put the 2 best teams in the state againts each other in the 3rd round. Bosco also is a team that shouldn't have to travel but with the rules what can you do. I expect Bosco to pole away fast and early in the first quarter. Don Boscos high powered offense is going to score quickly and often on a weaker Central Elkader defense. Final score 74-12. See you at the UNI Dome.

Anyone know what to expect with the weather conditions in Elkader this evening? If the wind is whipping the flag around on the pull and the atmosphere is nasty I don't expect Bosco to pole away in this contest. Time will tell though.

41 degrees at kick. 6-8 mph wind. Weather won't be a factor. Field conditions aren't great though because 5 of the 7 home games this season it rained. The week 1 game against Tripoli really tore up the field when it was in the best condition it has ever been in prior to the game.

KCTN FM 100 will have the game once again. They will also give updates of the NFV vs Waukon game which should be a good one as well.

1,500-2,000 fans expected at tonight's game. Easily the biggest game Central has ever had. No disrespect to HLV and the qrt final game from last year but this one is gonna be a great matchup and great atmosphere for 8Man football. I would say the west matchups would be tough to have a better atmosphere than this one tonight. Definitely the place to be in NE Iowa tonight.

If the game tonight ends up being better than last year's HLV/Central game I would be really shocked. That was a thriller throughout.

Yes it was SICL. Louis Kriegel was the difference in that game. He made the great play before half on the long TD. Handled his side of the DL. Got some key 1st downs in their power pkg. That was the difference this year I think. They weren't able to replace him and his production.

Dalton Kriegel made a great play in the corner of the end zone on a 4th down play with about 10 secs left I believe to knock the ball down on a pass play.

Word is Bosco is bringing 4 bus loads of parents/fans to the game tonight. The more the merrier.

Still up in the air about making the trip up to Elkader. Considering that game, Gladbrook-Reinbeck/BGM, Washington/Kennedy and Decorah/West Delaware. Located in CR so I might make the short trip to Kingston.

Dec/WD game I don't think will be much unless WD plays undisciplined like I have heard they can do at times.

GR/BGM game will be interesting but not as attractive to me.

Wash/Kennedy game should be good but something tells me Kennedy will blow them out.

Is JeffyScores going to be on one of them buses?

Hey AaronAnderson, I won't be on one of the 4 to 5 of the busses our school is bringing over. I'll be driving my 2011 baby blue Prius which gets 48 miles per gallon on the highway! But I will be sitting front row cheering on the greatest team in the state. Already got my hotel booked for next Thursday and for the State Championship game!! See you there. Go Dons Go!

Wow, I sure hope they don't pole away. They might injure someone. Don Bosco plays in Eastern Iowa. Eastern Iowa football is nothing compared to Western Iowa Football (3A and down). They always have great records coming into the playoffs and then play a western Iowa team and fizzle. If you need more examples look at boys basketball too.

Go 'Stangs.

CatcherForLife6,

That was a pretty bold statement. I think of Harlan, Heelan in the west. I think of Kee High baseball, Solon, Xavier, etc in the east. Greta temas on both sides in all sports. No way that someone can realistically say the west is better across the board. That is just ignorant.

Oh, yeah. IC Regina, how could I forget them. Only the most dominating stretch in any sport in any class that are in right now.

Someone should break down the titles of all football classifications in the past 10 years. Des Moines should be excluded though because they are the biggest city, in the center of the state and no clear way to decide whether they are east or west and between Dowling and Valley they would sway the # way too much for it to be valid.

And before them, Jimmy Morris and the Solon Spartans went on a decent little run winning quite a few titles.

Yep 4 in a row in 2A and 3A, right? C'mon SICL, even with that, the west is waaaayyyyy better no matter what happens in the east.

Not to mention Pella and North Fayette Valley both won titles last year as well, they're certainly not from the west.

Somebody better let Marv Cook in on the news. He's not supposed to win over on this side of the state. It just can't be done. Kids have no talent over here and they're just uncoachable. Doesn't matter how hard you work, you just can't build a program over on this side. Football is a game solely based on geographical location and everyone knows it, the facts are clear. Good coaching and hard work have no bearing on success, you just have be located west of I-35. The kids pop out of the womb and hit the Heisman pose while the umbilical cord is still attached. Even the worst coaches in the world win over there. Ed Thomas should have been fired for telling a few of his kids if they worked hard enough they could play in the NFL someday.

Check the facts, it's even been scientifically documented in the medical journals.

Let's not forget the whole deal about wrestling how it is "Just as Good" on the western side as the eastern side. Then when they get to the state tournament they get smoked. Or how sometimes districts will only have 3 wrestlers at certain weights.....

The dividing line is I-35. You're either west of it, or east of it. It's quite simple really. I don't even understand the debate. It's automatic, you're a better coach or player just being on the west of I-35. Football is a game of geographical location. It has nothing to do with play calling, blocking, tackling, passing, catching, scouting, practicing, etc. None of that matters if you are not on the right side of I-35. The state was hoping to hide this simple scientific fact from parents and kids on the east side for ever, but the cats out of the bag now.

I also recently read that Bosco was going to have to forfeit its title from a couple years ago for not disclosing it's geographical location prior to the game. It's wins over Murray, Exira, and Adair Casey are to be stricken from all records and legal documents. Regina and Solon are also being investigated.

I'm glad this thread turned into something people have been arguing about for years already rather than about the games that are going to be played tonight which as always are shaping up to be really good going into the semifinal round next week. Some of you need to get over your ignorant egos and move on from the topic of east vs west and let the games and play on the field do the talking rather than what happened 5-10 years ago with stuff that doesn't have any affect over what is happening today. Come on.

Agree high90. Honestly nothing said on here ever really has any kind of effect on outcomes. I was trying to inject some humor. I didn't intend to participate in a hi jacking. Good luck to all of the kids and coaches tonight !

I wouldn't want to make the 20-25 minute drive from Gilbertville to the Dome either, good call on getting the hotel.

guys, I truly don't care and just trying to get your feathers ruffled. Exo Facto, who gives a hoot where they come from.

Well the east vs west battle really won't be able to get explained for a few years as a whole IMO. Since they used to do bracket it was always set up to roughly get 2-2 from each side. Now that they are trying to get best teams there etc or attempt to it will take few years to get a breakdown.
That being said last ten years break down of each class. I excluded 4A because of metro school dominated pointless really to say east or west.

Grand totals west has had 27 of the 50 state champions
and 33 of the 50 runner ups so 60 - 40 West leading obviously 8 man really swings it but like I said will be really telling the next 5 years or so.

Did the eastern side of the state even have 8 man teams back when the class got started? I know it always seemed like it was more of a western iowa thing. I bet the first few years the western side had 2 or 3 times, maybe even more, the number of teams the east had.

I will be staying in a hotel do to the fact I will be celebrating every DB win at the Dome and in down town Cedarfalls. I also have family from Vermont coming to watch the state championship game and watch Bosco hold that trophie high!! East side of the state is where the best football comes from. It was a fluke last year.

Yes Jeffy! Let's go to Sharkys on Wednesday night before the games Thursday morning!

After the season we can meet up Aaron!! I would love to talk high school ball with you! I can't have any distractions during the season. I have been to busy drawing up plays and all that good stuff! I can show you a play by play analysis I've creative. Hopefully I get a college coaching job real soon!

You should be paid Jeffy for being so good at keeping this, whatever you call it going for weeks on end. You got 2 more weeks in you to continue all the way through the title game? If anyone can do it, it's you!

So basically the West had twice as many teams the first 11 years with most of those years the East was out numbered way more than that. Then they brag about how they dominate 8man. Hey maybe in a few years when the East is dominating, the West can start up a 6man division and wreck that league for 10 years.

Does it really matter East vs West, Really, up to last year the west had to beat each other just to get to the Dome (NF vs DB). Side shouldn't matter as the East should've been able to get their top team there each year to compete. Now I think the top 4 teams are there. Should be great games! NF looked really good tonight, along with GR dominating and DB roaring back for a great win. MMC had a hard fought win! I'm really excited for these semi match ups...both games look real exciting!
