This should be a monster game Monday night at the US Cellular Center in Cedar Rapids at 6:30. Two teams with identical records of 18-5 and both have D1 signees: 6-9 junior Austin Pfyfe of the Go-Hawks is a UNI commit, and Wahlert's 6-8 Cordell Pemsl has signed with the Iowa Hawkeyes. Wahlert plays in the tough MVC Conference and owns a win over Iowa City West. However they have two bad losses at CR Prairie by 1 and at home against Dubuque Senior by 2. Waverly's five losses are very deceptive. In four of them, either Austin Phyfe or star guard Camry Moore was absent, and the other loss was to the No. 1 team in its class in Minnesota, St. Croix Lutheran of metro St. Paul- Minneapolis. Phyfe missed the two close losses to MVC teams East Waterloo and CR Xavier. Waverly and Wahlert met last year at Wells Fargo Arena and both big men sat large chunks of the game in foul trouble, especially Phyfe. Wahlert won, but Waverly returns four starters and has the revenge motive and better quickness going for them. I predict a very tight game, with the winner being able to keep their key players out of foul trouble and avoiding turnovers. Both teams are not very good free throw shooting outfits, so that will also be a factor. Either one of these teams could make a run at the title (the two teams have won five of the last ten 3A championships). One very excellent team will be going home Monday night with a loss. May the best team win.

Bcmoore has Wahlert as a 13 plus point favorite. I see the game in double digits. Pemsl has always had the best supporting players. Last couple years it was Carter, Timp and Wedewer. This year is no different, Till, Wedewer, Meiers, Iwowari and on and on. Phyfe supporting staff can't match that.

I think that Waverly has been totally under-the radar (or perhaps under-the-computer) this season. I think the Go-Hawks supporting cast is awfully good- Moore, Stenslund, Epley, Mosley, young Velky, etc. These are two very, very smart, veteran teams.

I agree Waverly is very talented but they are all 6 foot besides Phyfe and Wahlert has several 6'6" to 6'8 guys. Wahlert would have to have off night by both Wedewer and Pemsl.
